I spoke with BDL, they say it does have some compensating ability. The sprocket actually moves back and forth approx 2-3 teeth. It looks like a pretty sweet set up, it's installed, just waiting for a few more parts then I'll test it out...
I am very interested in this! Mine goes bang on start-up and it looks like the SE one isn't a great improvement? BDL has been around awhile and I haven't heard anything bad about them.
I would be worried about my crank if I went to a solid sprocket transfer system. At least the current compensator design absorbs some of the shock loads to the crank.
mine is welded! and I like this product. I have the se unit right now but I know it will crap out at some point. would love to hear a review when its up and running.
I know this is an old thread. Any luck with the BDL for the '07 and up. In the Drag catalog they are now $215. I have been reading the threads on compensators. I posted a new thread about the BDL and got no comments.
With 2 different web browsers I was unable to open anything to get an exploded view of what's in it. Without that, I'd be hesitant to risk almost as much as the SE comp was. I have always wondered why coil springs in compression similar to the arrangement in a car manual clutch hub wouldn't do the job just as well and not be so lube critical. That arrangement works dry and easily handles over 500 hp if so engineered. I'd think 100 hp with lube would be an easy assignment.
Kind of junk and you WONT hear much. They work on a threaded center and hit the bike hard enough... once... and it will thread to the end, stay there, and act like a solid gear.
Go with Hoban Bros, or the GMR Compusaver to make the SE one work correctly. I was a BETA tester for the Compusaver, and it does work as advertised. This... after I have gone thru 3 SE comps, the 4th is with the Compusaver.
I know his is a older thread but I just inquired about BDL's compensator this the reply I got back regarding it.
Granted it is from BDL so it is in favor of there's, however they did reply quickly to my email. I'm still not sure what I want to do at this point.
"Hey Chris, Holds up great in real world testing, freeway city , slow fast, I personally tested one on an 09 Electra Glide, works better with another primary chain tensioner other then the stock one , Hayden has an M-6 spring tension type, Baker has a manual adjust type, compensator has no springs, works off of a rotating design, works on a twisting motion on a threaded pattern, bolt on application, includes shims for different years, use as needed for correct primary chain alignment, made of steel , with Nylatron buffering washers on both sides of sprocket."
One bad review from wurk-truk vs how many bad SE reviews?????? I installed the BDL along with the Hayden M6, a new primary chain, and new IPB (the stock adjuster did its thing) about 1000 miles ago. No problems so far. BDL needs to put better directions and pics in the kit. Directions did not mention what to do with the stock spring washers. I did not see the need to leave them in and removed them.
