Resale Values
Back in 2008 I was selling my 2003 Deuce for 14k and had no luck on the forum, of all places I sold my bike on Craigs List to a gentleman from New Mexico. I had over 3k in HD parts and that was just the price of parts. In my case my bike was the bike the seller was looking for and he liked the installed parts. I was in no hurry to sell my bike and it took just over a month to sell. I looked at the surrounding market (cycle trader, Craigs List, dealerships, and Ebay) when I was selling my bike and I priced my bike accordingly. Installed parts are always interesting, the dealer for the most part will not give any extra for the installed parts but I have been told by dealers that you can add 20% from the retail price when selling privately. The buying market will definitely dictate the selling price of the bike. I recommend taking detailed pictures of your bike and advertising on Craigs list and the Cycle Trader.
I am giving my 07 to my Grandson, when I get one, haha.
I look at it this way. My 07 is not that much different than a 1950's.
I like mine alot better than the throttle by wire new ones. I would like the newer frame and ABS. I will be going with the Glide pro when needed.
My Harley is mine, there are many like it, but this one is mine.

Actually, add ons CAN add to the value of a bike IF:
They are Genuine HD or high-end aftermarket, not Kury Krap.
You have replaced bland stock parts with the chrome or custom equivalent. (controls, braided wires, master cylinder, regulator, etc) NOT with covers.
They are not too radical on a basically stock bike.
They have no "theme" (Willie G skulls, Live to Ride, similar colors or graphics on everything, etc)but are tastefully done with just a "generic" custom look.
The mods are "non-destructive" (meaning they can be put back to stock;nothing's been cut, welded, etc)
You still have the stock parts.
Custom paint,no matter how nice, kills the value, unless it's a Harley "numbered" series. Engine mods can go either way. A 96 bumped to a 103 by a Dealership will add to the value. A blower added by an indy will kill it. A stage 1 is about equal to stock in terms of value.
You may be in luck since you have an '07. That is the ONLY year with a 96" 6 speed, & NO TBW. That's the ONLY reason I wanted & bought my '07. Many people I know, myself included, would not TOUCH a TBW bike!

I am in the process of selling my 07 FLHTCU. Both of my local dealers offer either consignment or cash value. Well, the consignment avenue was a complete joke! They go by NADA retail value. There is NO accounting for extras, low mileage or extended warranty. I was told they could only sell it for approx. $16,300 because that is all the banks will finance for. After the 15% fee, I'm left with a whopping $13,200...really? The other dealers cash value was about the same. I looked into selling it privately, but was a little affraid of the risks. I look at Cycle Trader and E-Bay, and some desperate sellers are letting them go for as little as NADA trade-in value @ $11k-$12k. Most are priced on average from $16k-$18k. I fully understand that the economy sucks but to see resale values that bad for a $23k motorcycle in 2007. I have approx. $5k in extras, transferrable extended warranty and only 2,600 miles. I am not desperate to part with it, I just want somebody to be enjoying it being I cannot. I am willing to get the dealer safety check and even a CARFAX report for the potential buyer. What creeps me out is the test ride. I understand it is NOT customary, the safety check is the key to avoiding it I guess. Too many horror stories of people just taking off on their bikes. That is exactly what I want to avoid but I am not willing to just give it away at fire sale prices either. BTW, how successful are the sellers on this forum? I am seeking just a bit of wisdom to help me in the process.
He could trade it on a trike if he wants to go further in the hole!
I don't understand people not wanting a low mileage bike. I bought an 03 with 2k on it last year. Rode it 7k miles this summer, no leaks, bike is mint. OP you can get extra for add ons, and low miles. Just don't expect to get back what you put in it.
LOL - I'm laughing at him, and now you! Tool!
Perhaps he has an ailment, and perhaps you're really not a twinkie. However, I couldn't care less either way.

The fact that he cannot ride really has no affect on the price of selling a used motorcycle. Am I supposed to pay more because the owner can't ride it anymore? How much more? 10%? 20%???? More if he has a VA disability? My point was and still is that it is a used bike. When you sell a used bike you expect to get a lower price. I have an 07 FLHP that I ride. If/when I decide to sell, I sure don't expect to get what I paid for it. Those days are gone. Just like .29/gallon gasoline. The HD market is flooded with more bikes than people can afford. Or want. Good luck to the OP and I hope you get a sales price that makes you happy.
I guess, but seeing that he can barley drive a car I dont think a trike is going to be the answer
