keep watching the classified ads. I have the hf jack, but was able to pick up a pitbull lift that was just like new for 2 bills. there is no comparison between the 2 jacks.
It's definitely economical, but you get what you pay for w/this jack & after going to local HF store, elevating & standing on it...very unstable. I'd say it's good for lightweight bikes (i.e. dirt, small street) - not beefy enough for HD, or anything over 500lbs...JMO.
i got the yellow jack yesterday and returned it today. i could not trust it with my bike.
One day I slowly let the bike down. As the tires touched the floor it began to lean towards the kickstand. Suddenly I realized it had gone too far. I had left the kickstand up. There it was, resting on the engine guard. :-(
I would suggest that one always leave the kickstand down when on the jack. That way, if the jack seals fail, it will come down and rest in the parked position.
I got my jack used, off Craigslist. Though it is not a HF jack I did take the time to adjust the bars that go into the recesses. The ones that lock the jack into place at a specific height. Sometimes one would catch and the other would not. Now they catch as they should.
well if you follow the instrucktions and ALLWAYS set the lock . you will never have a problem . if your leaving it up let the presure off the hydrolics after you set the lock .
the jack is safe just not STUPID Proof.
Matt i did the same thing with the kick stand , but caught it just in time DOH ! Da !
