Michigan State Police are actually conducting some research on this, I don't think the results are out yet. There is a concern due largely to the increase in rear end collisions to police cars, fire/ems vehicles, and road construction vehicles on the shoulders of roads that the LED technology in emergency lighting has caused this spike in collisions. The theory is that the lights are causing a halo effect meaning that your eyes see the bright lights and you can't look away and unconsciously steer towards where your eyes are looking.

PS to the OP: Glad you're ok. Keep your chin up.

We know your bummed about your bike. It's really unfortunate that meemaw shoves your new pride and joy right out from under you, and scrapes it all up.

It's good news that your unhurt, the bike can be repaired.

You got it at KillerCreek or Cartersville for repair? Like mkguitar said. Make CERTAIN that the bike it back to 100% before you accept it!

Best of luck

Beav

Quick tech question, would the saddle bag crash bar (on the Ultra Classic) spared some of the damage ? Thinking about adding some bars to the rear bags .....just in case of spill, and obviously a spill or knock over is one thing, and a full on crash is another (no bar really going to help)...just asking ..Hope you get back riding soon in any event. Cheers

The bike is at Cartersville HD now they have done their estimate and the insurance is supposed to go on Monday to inspect it. I will most certainly check it over very carefully before accepting it back. So far every time I have dealt with this particular dealer they have been very good!

Like so many posters have been saying, glad you are all right! That's the main thing! And, you might as well look at some modifications while your bike is in down mode. You have nothing to loose.

I really appreciate all the comments about my not being hurt! I have already begun the "justification" process for lots of new parts!

I bought a 2012 Road Glide Ultra in October. Sunglo Red. I didn't notice at the Dealership when I bought the bike, but after I got it home I thought I could detect a slight difference in color of the gas tank compared to the rest of the bike. When I took it in for the 1k service, they noticed ( in the shop with florencent lights) the color was off. They called MoCo and ordered a new tank. Current production ships out immediately. It was here within one week.. FYI
I had an issue with my custom orange tank, it was in stock and came fast. the "painter" knew he screwed up and sent it on anyway, so much for Q.C., if he was a painter. The only break I'll give him is after reading the story in HOG about york assy plant, the paint room has too much light to see how bad mine was.

good luck

Thanks goodness you are OK and able to ride again. I hope the repairs are quick and the bike looks "better than new" when it's done.
