If you are having a painter shoot the inner fairing, fairing cap, and mirrors, also have him shoot the small, black plastic bezel around the turn signal inicators/idiot lights. HD doesn't paint the bezel in the painted fairing/cap color-matched kits it sells. If you look at fish eye's picture, you'll see the unpainted bezel.
The bezel is a separate piece; my painter used a GEM clip to hang it for painting--much nicer than leaving unpainted or adding the chrome trim piece HD sells IMO.

Carl,
I never even thought to have that done. Good idea though. I'm not too upset about it though, as I think the black and orange are a good contrast.
Another thing to think about too...the little plugs that go in the holes where the fairing mounted wind deflectors go. I pulled mine, but my painter shot a set for me that they had laying around. Now I won't have little black dots down each side of the fairing at least.
I had taller bars installed so the painter filled the mirror holes.Went with the tribal mirrors.I think it looks pretty sweet. You can't tell where the stock mirrors were.
I also have a 2012 SG , big blue pearl, awesome color....did you buy HD paint? Did the painter do a good job? The paint has so much flake in it I'm worried that a painter won't be able to match it correctly....
Also, what bars did you go with? I have a set of WO 575 ready to install...

Painters are trained to put on medium wet coats and paint is designed to be put on the same way. Any painter with any real knowledge will be able to get what we call the texture right.
Now PPG or Pittsburg Plate Glass makes the colors for Harley and are very accurate with color formulas. Now as stated if the wrong reducer, or technique is used any color can be screwed up.
I'm sure I'll catch flak on this but, I would just buy the painted fairing from Harley if I had to do it over again. For what amounts to a small savings after selling the original it really isn't worth it to have somebody else paint it. I ended up having mine done twice at two different places and after the second time it looks pretty good but there still a couple of spots that aren't perfect. It really is a tough piece to paint with all the contours and nooks and crannies. Just sayin.

Exactly why I bit the bullet and bought the HD painted inner fairing. I figure I can recoup a few bucks selling the used inner fairing.
