Default Blacking Out The Exhaust - What Do You Think?

I am considering having my T-Rex Hard Krome pipes blacked out and I wanted to hear what the HDForum community thought and/or hear their on expiriences doing the same.

Since the visible OD of the pipe is essentially a heat shield I wonder if I could go with a regular Gloss Black finish as opposed to a duller finish you get with the Hi-Temp finish. What do you think?

Has anyone had the "standard" powdercoat applied to hot surfaces before and had good luck with them?

What would you guess the temps are on the OD of the pipes more so near the near cylinder mounting flanges?

What would you do - leave them chrome? get them done in standard powdercoated Gloss Black? or have it done in the duller/flatter Hi-Temp black powdercoat?

All constructive input is much appreciated.

I am not sure this is constructive, but I would leave your bike the way it is.[sm=badidea.gif]

The thing looks perfect with the arrangement you have!

What they said - looks great as is.

Do you have a picture from the front? Are those black passing lights?

I personally like the chrome but if you decide on it, I have a spare set of T-Rex pipes if interested.

Wouldn't trust powder on heat shields. Other choices are CERAMIC or BLACK CHROME. Of the 2, Black Chrome will give ya the deepest, sinister shine and best look! Saw a bike with a lot of black chrome at a recent bike show, it stood out among the rest!

Leave 'em chrome! Once you start going black, it's hard to know when to stop. You need the chrome to accent the black and visa-versa.....they play off each other. Too much chrome and it is gaudy....too much black and it's a Darth Vader time. Balance!

IMO Your bike look good the way it is, But if your looking for a black don't powder coat them. Ceramic is the way to go, the stuff is tough as nails wont discolor, Iam not big in to the chrome stuff if you can't tell <LOL>

Black 'em out!

That said, ceramic coat them. Even my powdercoater doesn't like the looks of high-temp powdercoat, and all but refused to do my pipes. So I'm going with Jet Hot once I get my o2 bung installed.

My powdercoater wasn't real hot on the idea of pc'd heat shields, either.
