I third and forth, HD uses PPG. I painted two inners with Vibrance yesterday, and both matched fantastic. One was Sedona Orange and the other was Merlot Sunglo.

That can't be true!

Next, you'll be telling me they don't own any drilling platforms or refineries to make HD oil!

I have no use for the Citgo oils with H-D labels.

As weekender said if you are painting the entire bike go with PPG. On that note.....I had my inner fairing painted with PPG "matched" to my bikes color. The color and tint is good but the flake is much finer and does not "sparkle" like the original paint. It is a dead match in most lighting conditions but in the garage or where the light is indirect the color is a touch different. Not enough to make me change it though. It's just me I have a keen eye when it comes with tonal and hue differences in colors!

I went with PPG when I painted my hard bags. Perfect match on Black Cherry Pearl and cheaper. Good luck

OP, get the PPG code for your color(s) and go to any painter.

The gun, pressure, how the painter shoots the part, and other variable can effect the "match." Better painters shoot test panels to get a match.

For a whole bike, HD paint is probably no more expensive than the PPG paint. The cost savings in using PPG is usually the ability to get a smaller quantity of paint for the job; e.g., inner fairing and other parts; rather than having to buy in quart size that HD sells.

Good luck with your project.

Well the whole bike is being painted. Also the bike didnt go to any local body shop. it went to a guy that is **** about everything. It has to be perfect. Plus he use to own a custom bike shop and does custom graphics. He wanted to paint the rear fender also. The rear fender is being covered by a top shop stetched fender cover. His point was if I removed the bag any paint from old fender might slightly off shade. Ofcourse since mock up we are not painting the rear fender.

The reason I ask was he said he was going to check into Harley paints. I wanted the bike back to a stock color. (Copper pearl) I already called him and told him PPG was fine. Not that he listens to me. He wants the bike perfect, he is going to use what he feels is best. Cant wait till its done and park it my garage and dream about riding it in the warm weather in a few months

I tried to have my body shop mix up my Flame Blue Pearl;no such luck.

They had everything but the pearl,or tint,as they call it.

After alot of phone calls,we ended up getting the paint from a custom painter that had some leftover from a previous job.

Now I need some more for the extended bags,so I went to the place that mixed it up for the custom painter, and was told they didnt have the pearl.Turns out they do have it,and it only `fits` this blue.

Wish I had the time and money to see if another readily available pearl would work.

Guess I`ll have to spend the bucks, and have them mix me up a quart.

BTW,for all you guys that had your paint matched perfectly, thats great.I was told by one of the better parts guys at Gengras, that when people buy the HD paint from him,it usually never matches.
