Harley paint or PPG

I had my inner fairing painted with PPG "matched" to my bikes color. The color and tint is good but the flake is much finer and does not "sparkle" like the original paint. It is a dead match in most lighting conditions but in the garage or where the light is indirect the color is a touch different. Not enough to make me change it though. It's just me I have a keen eye when it comes with tonal and hue differences in colors!
The PPG paint consumers buy is not the same paint that Harley OEM buys...
PPG has different divisions; "Industrial" (OEM Harley) and "Refinish" (Joe Paint shop and Harley Catalog offered paint).
The Formulas AND Raw Materials that are filled for the Harley shelf offered are not the same as the OEM; they are only a match (as any paint producer does).
There is a member on here that works in PPG Refinish and occasionally supplies PPG codes for members.... I can tell you 100% they are not the same codes as supplied to the Harley factory -because I work in PPG Industrial where it is made.
All that being said, 'PPG' and 'Harley' paint is the same but only a match to the OEM paint. That is one of the reasons why you may be able to see an oh so slight difference.
Now don't everyone go out and try to get your hands on the OEM stuff because you can't paint the OEM stuff in just any paint shop, AND it is not offered to consumers. (p.s. if PPG did offer it to consumers, it is a 20 gallon minimum to make in Industrial) and now you know all the dirty little secrets.
