I went with e Classic... added the Cruise, CB....I wanted the CB so i started with a J&M unit...added cruise at time of purchase...I am 6'1" so height was not an issue...The SG is sweet looking though so if you don't need the CB go fot it.

Tough one...

Practically speaking the Ultra is probably the way to go, but the heart wants what the heart wants.

I have a SG and I ride solo (the Mrs. has a Deluxe). If I rode 2 up then I'd be thinking Ultra. I love the look of the bike and the stripped down nature of the bike opens it up for customization more than others. I will be adding a tour pack at some point...but probably a solo tour pack.

I would listen to my gut on this and if you have to spend a bit more $ to get the SG to what you want ...than that's what you'll have to do

I had a FLHX,Loved it. I now have a Ultra Limited,Love it.. On the SG I put a detachable tour pack, never took it off.. Short shocks have harder ride than ultra... Either one you choose you'll enjoy.. So go and have some Fun..

I ponder same thing few yrs ago. Went with the EGC with cruise & ABS no regrets. I didn't go with the detachable TP hardware just take it off/on myself 6 bolts not a big job on EGC. Bought some used SG fender stuts and looks realy nice clean with TP off.

Look at both bikes side by side and add up the cost of all the stuff you don't get on SG.

To the op, I was in the same situation back in 2010. I Wanted the "sportiness" of the SG, but knew I would have a passenger a large % of the time. When the time came to lay down the dough, I bought the EGC for almost 2 grand less than the SG. I immediately thought about the detachable hardware but the dealer told me to ride it and see what you think of the tour pak. I can honestly say I never thought about the detachable hardware again. My situation may be different than yours because my OL is with me most of the time. There are alot of minor mods you can do to make the geezer glide less geezer. See picture below.

If you want styling, go for the Street Glide. If you want value and a more comfortable bike for you and your passenger, go for the Electra Glide Classic.

I prefer the Electra Glide Classic. It has a touring seat, better shocks (longer travel), a real windshield, tour pak, crash bars and driving lamps--all for less money than a Street Glide.

When I flipped my dyna in for a tour bike I knew I could case less about a CB, rear speakers and all the extra chrome (which has slowly come off the bike) cruise was at the top of the list, then storage because I ride to & from work those are 2 things I JUST HAD TO HAVE.
I didn't want to wait to install them, I wanted them as I rode off the lot. Really weigh out what you can logically afford and what you really want to do with the bike. On a side note once you have a tour pak you'll find you can't live without it.
Hopefully you can find the color & such you want.

Let us know what you finally went with.

I think the SG is more expensive because the bike is in higher demand. With that said, I didn't see whether the OP said he was buying new or not. If buying new the EGC will be the better bargain since you'll get everything you want. However, if you are looking at a pre-owned bike it might come down to availability. If you can find a SG with detachable tourpak at a good price I don't think you'd go wrong jumping on it. But as others have said, ride them both and see which one you like better.
