Same here, added all the Ultra stuff to my SG not once but twice (two different bikes) QUOTE=metfancowboy;9197290]Ok if there is one guy one here who knows about making the wrong decision on which bike to buy,and spending mucho $ to get the "right one" it is me. I had a SG years ago when they first came out, ehhh. Looked good and a lot better than the Softail was,but something was missing, because I wasn't happy with it.

Flash forward to 2010,I was looking for something a little more comfortable, but wanted to take the tour pak off. Even though both my wife and mother told me I should get an Ultra or the Limited with ABS. I said no the cheaper EGC would be fine, with no ABS it was cheaper than most. So rode home on it,and all was good. 5 months down the road I was adding lowers, rear speakers trying to make it a Ultra. Just a waste of money, and the the best part was we were in Myrtle Beach for the spring rally it had just rained,so the road was still a little damp car pulls out in front of me while I'm doing 42 mph. It was tight two lane road,I couldn't stop I hit the brakes for everything they had,the rear pulled out from under me,at the last minute I swerved in the other lane barely missing a huge work delivery van. My first thought,I'm getting ABS ASAP.

So I thought to myself, hey I'm getting ABS and all that other good stuff. I want the sexy stripped down look. I want the new SG or RG. My wife doesn't ride much, she has her own. A SG/RG is all I need. So I buy a RGC,trick it out with wheels, apes, bags, and just about everything else. But I found I liked to look at it more than ride. It was miserable, the ride sucked, the windshield was worthless,it was a short one. Remember I'm trying to keep the great looks. And what did this get me? A beautiful bike that I didn't want to ride.

So I finally had enough,I traded in on a EG Limited. Best decision I have made on a bike since I bought the 90 Fatboy. This bike is perfect,if for some reason I want the SG I just take the tp off. To me looking back it is a no brainer which bike I should have bought. Just because the EGC and SG are the same price doesn't mean technically it's smart money. Because it's only smart money if it's the bike you really want. Ttake your time, and weigh everything, and you will hopefully make the right decision the first time.[/QUOTE]

Another thought is if you ever plan on selling the bike you'll never recoup the $ spent on accessories. I try to add as little extra $ as possible to my new bikes cause I usually don't keep them more than a few years.

Default Visited the stealer today

First, thanks for all the good thoughts and opinions. I would estimate 90% are saying go electra (and probably ultra classic).

So I went in to get my trade-in valuation and look at the bikes again in person.

Unfortunately I'm leaning towards the illogical. I definitely agree that the value on the electra is better - either a classic or ultra... but frankly, my favorite electra is the limited (I like the simpler front end fender etc).

BUT... the SG look and clean lines is what I really love right now. While I enjoy touring, I don't have enough time to do a lot of long distance stuff.

So I'm leaning towards the SG now - MAYBE a tour pak add-on... and maybe in 5 or 6 years I'll have more time and then trade to an ultra limited. I'm quite sure I'll want the limited later on... but it's also nice to trade-in every 5-7 years (lots of new technology and goodies).

Comparing at the bikes side by side, I just don't think I'll get the look I want from the electra - they just look more like full baggers - even when stripped down (front fender, running lights, rear bag guards, tail light etc).

Unfortunately - the stealer is not too flexible. I would have thought in this economy and the middle of winter they would be motivated. But they gave me a horrible trade-in value, and while they will work something on the new price, it isn't stellar.

I have an absolutely mint '06 low-rider. I babied it and keep it immaculate - it literally looks like a showroom bike. Lots of add-on's and only 13K miles. They only want to give $6,500 trade-in. That combined with somewhere between $1,500 and $2K on the new price, means they are essentially giving me $8,500 trade in with NO discount on the new bike. I think I can sell my existing bike for $9K+ privately.

So I may do that - still considering it. I should check out some other dealers as well. These guys just don't look that motivated.

Buy one of the leather tour pacs like they offered on the CVO's a few years ago. This way you can keep it and use it on your next SG or SG CVO.

Yes you should! We are very fortunate to have so many HD dealears in the L.A.\O.C. area you should take some time to shop & haggle. Once they know your ready to buy & not just a tire kicker, some will deal. I've heard some pretty good deals coming out of Westminister HD.
Good luck!
