Default Anyone have problems with their SE comp?

Getting the clatter and the clunk on start up. SE comp has been in for 15k now, just started on my ride out to San Antonio this past week. Was hoping I wouldn't have to deal with this again. Could it be something else?

Open 'er up and see if it suffered the fretting from lack of oiling. Cut oil grooves in it or put in the newer style.

Depends on which one you originally got, the -08 or the -08A

August of 2010 is when I had it put in. I will have my dealer check his records.

Fretting......Strong visual evidence supports the idea that oxide films form and are subsequently scraped away. The metallic surfaces in the fretted region become slightly discolored. The color of wear debris varies with the type of parent material; the corrosion product of aluminum is white but fretting causes it to become black, the corrosion product of steel is gray but fretting causes it to become a reddish brown.

Man Dawg, your a wealth of knowledge!! You made me go dig out my old paperwork to see which one I got installed when the inner primary bearing was replaced. Luckily I have the -08A

Interesting. I had one installed when the stock one on my 10 RK gave up the ghost.

After 15K more miles it sounded awful. The dealer cracked the case and everything was covered with a thick reddish film. Harley replaced the SE under warranty (the 2nd one). Nobody could explain the issue.

20K on the second one with no issues.

Had not heard of fretting before. Thanks for the info.

HDForums, the place where you find out your not crazy. LOL
