Chirping noise, probably from exhaust mounts. Anyone have any luck isolating and eliminatiung these noises? Good places to start? (eg hangers under bags . . .)
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
ps - I found a dent in my left muffler right at the back and at about 10 o'clock/ I have the 80847-10 EAGLE FATSHOTZ 2-INTO-2 SLIP-ONs. Love to know how that got there . . .
if lowered bike you can get chirps from the outside of the belt slapping between the tranny and inner primary as it goes to the top of the front pulley-
also if belt is too loose
this happens on decel
2.) check that the discs are not loosening up on you
3.) isolators- never had a problem with them, I take great care that the muffler is hanging in a "neutral" position before tightening clamps
weird place for a dent- those can stick out a little far and the bottoms can bang into curbs when backing up ( seen guys back it, then lean to bike on the jiffy--- and muffler take the weight of the bike.
The rubber muffler isolators on the touring are very prone to chirping. It's pretty cheap to replace them. I've also had good luck lubing the rubber and eliminating the noise.
friend had a chirp i put my foot on the end of his rienhats and it stopped told him to lube the hanger grommet, still chirping, found the lower motor mount so loose the bolts were chirping.

No kidding - I can't help wonder if the service dept managed to drop something on my bike . . . I sure didn't do it.
Anyway, no use gonig down that road. I'd never be able to prove it.
I'll try all the suggestions as posted including motor mount. Thanks!
LOL - the dent is supposed to be there. It's for clearance.
Mine chirped when the rubber isolater slid back on the hanger. was too clean I guess. A slight film of oil and never slipped out place again.

On my 92 FLHTCU I had the damnable chirp also ... mine was hiding out at the muffler mount under the saddle bag also .... some silicone lube on the mount must have sent the bird south!

Where is the dent exactly? Is it possibly from the rear axle hitting the muffler on suspension rebound? The stock mufflers have a huge depression in them just for that reason but most aftermarket mufflers do not. Although the right side is the one to usually hit first because the nut on the axle sticks out a little farther than the welded end.
