Default Finished with 14 apes!

Thanks for all the advice and info I received on this site I finished the install today! I took it out for a short ride today and I think I am really going to like them.

Weed eater string works great for this job!

Here is some before and after pics. I'm 5'10".

Yes they are wild ones. I also used hdbikeparts.com for the wiring harness, clutch and brake cables. It made the wiring a piece of cake.

Dont know if the jacket makes it look different but it sure
seems the bars have put you in a much more comfortable
riding position.

On the wiring, did you just connect extended wiring and run through the bars or did you end up doing any splicing? Reason I ask, is because I just helped a friend install apes on his sporty and when we connected the extended wiring to his stock wires is was just a bit thicker and there was a rigid core were the metal connectors were all grouped together. This was impossible to get around the sharp bends in his bars. We eventually had to run each wire by itself to make the bends.

So my question is wouldn't it be better to just cut your original wiring in staggered one to two inch length increments and just splice new wiring there to lengthen?
on nice rounded curve bars this might not be an issue, but on the hard 90 degree bends like on bagger bars or prime apes this could make a big difference.

I love a RK with apes! Looks way comfortable for you, Pirate! Good job on the install. Any complications at all? I had a hard time getting my clutch adjusted correctly after my ape install.

The apes definitely changed my riding position. I think its going to be a lot more comfortable.

Shutterbug I think if I had real sharp bends it probably would be better to splice my own, however with the kit you have the same color wires and that makes the reconnection process a lot easier. I would probably buy a kit for bars a lot longer and splice them.

I really didn't have any major problems. I took my time and never got in a rush. My wife helped me pull the wires, the extra set of hands made it a lot easier.

We have been looking at 14" apes as well for our Street Glide. Have been leaning toward the Z Bar or Paul Yaffe Monkey Bars style though. Anxious to get though because I love doing my own projects.

Looks good though good job!!!
