Default Chrome brake rotors

I was wondering how well the chrome 1 piece rotors work on the touring bikes. Does the chrome area that makes contact with the pads start to look bad after a while???
or is a 2 piece rotor the way to go???
Thanks

One peice rotors are not chrome, they are polished. Pad contact area is gonna scuff the first time you hit the brakes.

Make sure your new rotors have holes on the contact surfaces to displace water!
Hatch.

Do you want to stop?! If you want chrome, go with 2-piece. You can see what happens on normal rotors where the pads rub and the chrome on one-piece rotors will quickly go the same way.

When disc brakes first came out on bikes in the 70s, some brands (Triumph IIRC) used chrome plate. Not only did they not stop very well, eventually the chrome started to peel off, which is also not good!

Harley offers a range of semi-floating rotors with chrome centers. These have serve me well up front. Out back, you can't see the rotor on my bagger RK anyway so I left it stock.

Believe or not a few years back(the 90's) PM was making cast iron rotors flash chromed(or nickle plated I can't remember), the plating wore off where the pads made contact very quickly by design. You had to pull the pads after the plating wore off and sand them on a surface plate, but after that, Whoa daddy! The plating still was on the rest of the rotor to keep the surface rust in check.

Polished 1 piece rotors are great, you just have to buy organic brake pads so they don't scuff. I've had some for several years now and they still look great.

Thank you for reply and for the organic pads advice in particular. About to order pair of polished.
