Back in June my 2006 Ultra start clicking in the lower end. I was in Albuquerque at the time so I had plans for the bike for the next week so I ask the if they thought it would last until the following week when I could drop it off and have the timing chain tensioners replaced. It was agree it could wait. Well I got a block from the dealer before the oil light came on and it wasnt running right so I did a Uy and went back.
The service writer had the mechanic check it out and without tearing into it it seems the timing chain took out th roil pump and there was a knock. The price to have the motor removed, sent to HD in Milwaukee to be rebuilt and returned to Albuquerque for them to put it back inland set it was... $3700 to $4000.
Since then I have been trying to get ahead on my bills so I would have enough to start the process, $2700. At first I wanted to give them what I could every month ibut they didn't want to leave the work order open that long. So I had been thinking on picking it up and I would do the job myself
Yesterday I received a call from the service manger saying they ran the VIN and I had an extended warranty agreement until 2015. I had forgot i bought that since it was a used vehicle. So they are tearing it down to see what is wrong and it might be heading to Milwaukee for a rebuild and guess what I will have to pay....
I've been considering the purchase of an extended warrenty and have really been asking myself if it would be worth it. In this particular case it most certainly was. Makes me start to favor the purchase.
