How about simply inspecting the original compensator and putting it back together if its still OK? Unfortunately if you need to change the spring washers they come assembled with the rotor of the alternator #40356-07.
I can not speak for the BDL but the SE is a good one. Just make sure you send it out for balancing it will help with some of the added vibration we have found installing them and it will lighten it up a little. Since they are heavier than stock. I hope this helps

If you think you have a problem with your compensator be sure and find the root cause of the problem. I fixed my compensator "BANG" with a $79 All ***** starter clutch and a few hours of learning a new starter system in my garage (see my album). With some of the newer posts on here it still doesn't sound like the MOCO has "FIXED" the compensator. Now there is a question of balancing the new $250 compensator. And that still doesnt fix the not enough oil issue they are having. Might want to wait a bit if you can.
This balancing thing is interesting. Who does that kind of work? I live near Chattanooga, TN and would not know where to take something like that for balancing. I an assuming a machine shop.
The 20 yr factory trained mechanic I know here said we would just take mine apart, clean it up and re install it. He had nothing good to say about the SE # save for the remark that it might last just a bit longer. So I'll either do that or go with the Baker.

Frank this is the first time I've heard of having to balance a compensator, where would you suggest getting this done?
I put on the SE and there was no requirement to balance it. It was a big improvement over stock....If you are taking the time to open it up why put the stocker back in, it has a history of problems...just getting rid of the starter clunk was worth the swap and it runs way smoother..JMHO
