Default Switch Housing

I want to attempt to install my new switch housings on my own, I bought my off of eBay, they are new, but I did not get the little too to remove the radio controls, any ideas on a good replacement? I went to my Dealer and sure as ****, they want you to buy the hole kit from them and you get one. They do not sell it alone. Any ideas on this?

I didn't get a little tool for radio buttons either, think I pryed them off with a pair of needle nose pliers to get even leverage on both sides of the switch stem.

I was thinking that, but wasn't sure if it mite break it. I have been reading some people having some big time problems doing this job in the forum, still undecided if I want to do this. Any advice? Helpful hints?

Don't know if this helps or not, but to take the needles off the gauges on the wife's car, I used a fork. I don't know if you can get behind the buttons the same way or not.

So you buy on ebay and wonder why you don't get a break from your local dealer??? What a surprise.

The tool is similar to a tuning fork with one set of ends longer than the other--one end (the longer) is used to pry off the caps; the other, shorter end, is used to press the switch caps on.

Needle nose pliers are a good substitute.

It takes a surprising amount of pressure to reinstall the audio switch caps correctly. I lost a PTT/squelch chrome switch cap while on a trip and got lucky 'cause the parts manager at the HD shop on my trip pulled one from a kit; sold it to me for the individual replacement part cost (~$2); and, I had a tech at the shop do a side job to install it and improve my inadequate installation of the other audio/cruise switch caps for $10.

Good luck with your project.

Carl

I used hot water to soften up the switches like the start button and the turn signals, before I put them on.
I put a little daub of clear silicone on the PTT, cruise type buttons.
As far as removing the old ones, just pry them off. Carefully..................

Used the tool when I replaced my switches with chrome ones, but I think a fork would work just fine. Maybe even turn it over so the round (back) side is facing you.
