Default Radio Mode Switch Problem???

06 Electraglide Classic - On its own, my radio keeps switching from AM to FM to CD etc., and will switch stations and CD songs. My mode switch works perfecly, and at a stop the radio works fine. When I accelerate from a stop of just going down the highway it switches badly (like every 10 seconds) . Could this be the mode switch even though it seemingly functions perfectly? Hate to replace this switch if that isn't the problem.

Thanks for any ideas - Greg in Austin

First step I would do is open the switch housing and look for a pinched or chaffed wire. If you find one it would be a simple fix. If that is not the case, then second I would try to physically pull on the switch in the outward direction and maybe wrap tape around it to hold it "out" or in the unused position, then take a normal ride with it. If the symptoms cease, then it can be assumed that the switch is worn and needs replacement.

Have you downloaded any of the Harmon Kardon updates from the website? That might help

try disconnecting the handlebar switches and see if that makes a difference and check for loose connections or shorted wires

Mine did that one time after I had gotten into a rain storm, I stopped and sprayed it real good with WD 40 and it took care of it,,

This started after going to Sturgis in two solid days of rain last June. My headlight filled 3/4 with water and popped the buld. A couple of weeks later the problem started, and has just increased. I noticed the Mode controls go into the fairing where there's a connection to the radio. I think I will spray inside those connectors too. Any other connections that should be checked and sprayed????

Spray the connectors with electrical contact cleaner, blow them out (with air) and apply dielectric grease before reconnecting.
