Way back I use to deal a lot on ebay now never again I have been screwed to many times as a buyer and seller. Some that really stick out. As a seller I sold a oval track alcohol carburetor it was 30 days old had paper work to prove it, I paid 1,100 for it on ebay I got 400 (chance you take with no reserve) the guy paid for it via paypal two weeks later I get a dispute from paypal/buyer saying the carburetor was not the one I listed I submitted everything I had to paypal they still sided with buyer they took the money out of my account and give it back to the buyer upon the buyer providing a tracking number for the return of the carburetor which he provided when the package came to my house it was a box with shipping peanuts and a picture of a middle finger. As a buyer I bought a inner fairing it was packed pretty good but when I got it it had a huge crack in it (the box was in perfect shape) but the seller said it had to happen in shipping I would have to deal with FedEx on my own. Since there was no insurance on it so FedEx would not do anything I filed a dispute with paypal they agreed I had to deal with the shipping company which would not deal with me because I wasn't the shipper bottom line is I lost 300 more dollars. So I only buy on HD fourms or buy right from the store
I've had really good results from e-bay and have only had to make one return with over 100 purchases, blackswampbiker if I had your luck I wouldn't use them anymore either....
I bought a set of FBI slip on's on ebay, was told is great condition and ready to bolt on. they where in good shape and ready to bolt on.... without any baffles and FBI doesnt sell baffles for there pipes... got a refund but was out 30 bucks shipping..
Well I bought used SE255 cams from an Ebay store. He said low mileage , good condition. i get em and they look brand new, never been run. Well I go to install them, its now 4 months later and upon closer inspection I see someone broke a thread chaser in the end of the cam.
given your run of luck, are you sure they are 255s and not just stock cams boxed back up?
alot of folks flat out don't know what they are selling. folks are selling stuff that they bought and never installed and were told were never used....they sell them and since they never used them...list them as new. you get the item and there are wear patterns from bearings, were stripes down the center of cam lobes, wear on teeth side walls, and wear on shaft ends. seller didn't know. clue is if they have the original packing. why would someone buy cams, throw out the packing, put the cam on the shelf , and never use it?
there are some good deals on ebay with original packing for obsolete and discontinued items. sometimes folks buy a 103 kit, don't use the cams, and sell them seperately. those would have the original plastic envelope the cams cam in and they have the individual boxes. same for stage one kits. you buy a stage II 103 and you already had a stage one. sell the unused one as new becuse it is.
buying something that was installed is risky......was in installed correctly...over toruqued....correct break in lube...why was it removed?
beware of 110 new takes offs...they are take offs alright...dealer take offs becuase of the valve stem recall.
do your homework, google for problems with the part in question, often TB's and recalls pop up. lots of heads, stators, regulators on ebay......alot of them should have been put in the recycle bin...not on ebay.
After contacting the Ebay seller who sold me a rear pulley and I explained the problem , he promptly refunded my purchase price including shipping. Kudos to him.
Here is the final email.
Good morning. I appreciate your comments and thanks for the help. I want to run an honest site and do the right thing. I know if I purchased an item and it wasn't what was advertised, I would want at least my money back. Thanks again and have a great week.

There are still a few reputable sellers. You just need to comunicate.
I have been burned once on e-bay as a buyer, bought a used chrome thunderheader for my springer, weeks go buy and no tracking number, at 30 days file the complaint with e-bay, they agreed... but he never paid me the money owed. oh this guy had all the excuses, lost in transit, and finally it was ripped off by his "friend" ended up filing a police complaint in his home city, e-bay banned him (supposedly) and now I only buy and sell with high feedback sellers and only use pay-pal so both of us are protected. So far I've been able to keep my feedback rating at 100% with over 250 transaction (knock on simulated wood grain finish!)
when the package came to my house it was a box with shipping peanuts and a picture of a middle finger.
I buy and sell both on the classifieds and on ebay. I worry more about the buyers than I do about the sellers. When I do sell used parts, I try to carefully document the amount of wear and tear, including any cosmetic damage. I tend to get better prices for the parts I sell on ebay, most guys that use the classifieds (myself included) tend to expect swap meet pricing. But on ebay, you're dealing with complete strangers, with only paypal as your defense against unscrupulous buyers or sellers.
The only time I had to involve paypal in a dispute, they sided with me and I got all my money back, including shipping costs.
I just got tired of selling stuff at less than half what I paid for it, and then having to pay the shipping meant i was basically giving my stuff away, so i have basically given up on eBay. What really got my goat is when the seller proves it was delivered (even though no signature?), and i got ripped off even 'tho i never saw my merchandise(who the heck is stealin' this stuff, anyway?). I HATE when that happens, and it's happened to me more than once (they just say they'll investigate; nothing happens). Ugh, they always side with the sellers (that's where their money comes from)...
Just had a purchase go bad 2 weeks ago. Bought some extended bags and a fender. Fender didn't fit and I was pissed. Informed the guy that was from the Phoenix area that I had around 2,100 brothers there that could come retrieve my package if need be. Needless to say after a few knocks on the door from a close friend(s) of mine...my extended bags look sweet.
