Well I bought used SE255 cams from an Ebay store. He said low mileage , good condition. i get em and they look brand new, never been run. Well I go to install them, its now 4 months later and upon closer inspection I see someone broke a thread chaser in the end of the cam. Neighbor said Graham at the machine shop can fix it. He is a great machinest. He was able to remove the broken tap and cause no damage to the threads. The install continues but now I need more shims to correct the cam chain alignment.
2nd Ebay purchase was a 68t rear sprocket from another Ebay store. Well it gets here and I dont look it over to much until I start to compare it to the one on the bike. 07 EGC. I then notice that one side has the ring missing. This is the ring that keeps the belt on the pulley. Now to start the negotiations with the seller. We have exchanged 1 email so far. Hopefully he comes clean and gets me a good pulley or a refund .
Beware of Ebay. I've a hundred good purchases and now 2 in a row turn to crap. Look over your purchases when they arrive. I didnt. Blah..........
Enough rant for now. I'll let ya know how it turns out.
Cant wait to try the Se255 and PV from FuelMoto.
Way back I use to deal a lot on ebay now never again I have been screwed to many times as a buyer and seller. Some that really stick out. As a seller I sold a oval track alcohol carburetor it was 30 days old had paper work to prove it, I paid 1,100 for it on ebay I got 400 (chance you take with no reserve) the guy paid for it via paypal two weeks later I get a dispute from paypal/buyer saying the carburetor was not the one I listed I submitted everything I had to paypal they still sided with buyer they took the money out of my account and give it back to the buyer upon the buyer providing a tracking number for the return of the carburetor which he provided when the package came to my house it was a box with shipping peanuts and a picture of a middle finger. As a buyer I bought a inner fairing it was packed pretty good but when I got it it had a huge crack in it (the box was in perfect shape) but the seller said it had to happen in shipping I would have to deal with FedEx on my own. Since there was no insurance on it so FedEx would not do anything I filed a dispute with paypal they agreed I had to deal with the shipping company which would not deal with me because I wasn't the shipper bottom line is I lost 300 more dollars. So I only buy on HD fourms or buy right from the store
I sell alot of my used bike parts on eBay and on this forum; but I would never sell any items which could be constituted as "wear & tear" type items. Just for the simple reason that I my think that something is in great shape and the buyer may not.
I've had several Ebay purchases in the last few weeks for my Glide, mostly from the US and delivered to me at home here in the UK and every one is what I expected or better. My new starter arrived just 2 days after ordering it! I hear of people not being happy, but as an Ebayer for many years I have had nothing but success. Sorry you've been let down, just keep your eyes open in future!
I buy the minority of my parts for my bike on E-bay but I always make sure the seller is reputable,ie feedback.Never had a bad experience that wasn't resolved. The deals are there. No matter where you buy be aware I've read threads here about people getting ripped off.
There's always someone out there waiting to take advantage.
Look at the feedback score AND the number of transactions. If there are 10 transactions then its a risk. If there are 3000 transactions and 99.9 feedback then sounds like someone to take a chance on.
Used Harley parts are always a big risk. New, from reputable sellers/dealers, not so much. I have yet to attempt a used H-D part purchase from Ebay. For some reason, some bike people are pretty dishonest.
I make sure that the parts I sell on Ebay come with several pictures and an accurate description, plus the amount of wear and tear on the part. I don't want a buyer having unrealistic expectations. I've only been burned once on the purchase of an air cleaner from a shop in NJ. After filing a dispute, Paypal reimbursed the full cost.
