Good idea to use the removal tool, but I installed the bearings with an old cam, only importance to cam depth is you get them flush, Local bike shop does cams all the time and gave me the advice, there are no thrust surface on bearings so they just need to be flush if not then they can cause cams to be too tight side to side and gauld. the tool would be nice tho. Would definetly highly recommend getting the torrinton bearings too... I did use the HD SE tapered pushrods and took a toothpick and put a little red loktite on threads after adjustment was made for the jam nut..
Got 4000mi. since cams installed so would think everything would be ok..
Good luck..
Got the rest of my parts today. Fuel Moto pushrods, lifters and cam kit. Ready to throw the SE255's in this weekend. The only problem is I thought the Torrington bearings would be in the kit from Jamie but instead I got Sonnax bearing. Is anyone familiar with these bearing and are they good quality?
I have a set of SE204 cams I will be installing soon in my bike. I have never heard of Sonnax bearing before. The FM web site states that the cam install kit comes with the Torrington inner cam bearings. I will be purchasing the kit in a couple weeks so I too would like to hear more about the Sonnax bearings.
I recommend the Gary Beatty tool. Yes, the Autozone tool is probably low risk, but the expense for the right tool is worth the insurance against the possiblity of the bearing needles falling into the engine case.
When I did my cam project a couple years ago, I sold mine and regretted it. I had to buy another one for my new project. These tools are keepers.
