Default New guy with a seat question

Hey guys first off this site is awesome, I just purchased my first bike it's an 01 ultra classic. Has a salvage title but I picked it up on a great deal and the only problem with it is that it needs a new inner and outer fairing and a clutch lever. Anyway I plan on doing a few mods to it so I figured it's a good starting point since I want custom paint. The first things I want to do to it other than fix the fairings is install a new seat, I like the ones on the street glides and see them everywhere for cheap so the question is would a street glide seat fit on my 01 ultra classic ? And is there a certain year seat I should look for ? If not I will go aftermarket but I sure would love to put that money on other mods.

Welcome to the nuthouse. LOL!! Some of the guys in here will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you wanna look for 08 and older model seats. In 09 they changed the frame and I believe those seats won't work with older models. Is that right guys? I'm learning Harley myself still. Best of luck to ya.

As said before the seats you need are the 2008 or older. You mentioned a salvage title. Were you able to get it titled and get it lisenced? I would look into that first if you have not. That can be a problem.

Read some more about that street glide seat.. The reason you see so many for sale is because they suck for comfort. You won't be doing any long distance riding on a street glide seat without severe butt pain.

Acutally it would be a 2007 or older seat. They changed the mounting in 2008 because of the change to a 6 gallon tank.

Your consol is probably different (shorter) where the nose of the seat meets it too.

Thanks for the replies, my main purpose with the bike for now will just be some weekend cruising and maybe ride to work a few days a week doubt that I will make many long out of town trips anytime soon and if I do I'll still have the stock couch coushion. The guy I bought it from is a local dealer and he said that he will walk my through the steps of getting it legal, he sells dozens of salvage bikes a year and has a good reputation so I trust him on that end. So if I find a seat off of an 08 and under is it a direct swap or are there any mods needed ? This stock seat is god aweful to look at and I have sat on a couple of street glides and think that seat will do me well for what I'm doing. Thanks again

You're going to want the older variety of touring seats. Your bike has the short console and requires that older longer nosed seat.

OR

You could buy the console extension(cheap and looks it) run the shorter seats.

OR

You could switch to the longer console of the FLHX, if you don't want those plug ins on yours.
