Have a 012 Ultra, looking to buy 3/4 helmets with shield for long trips (also wf) HD have a retractable sunshield do not have any experience with them, any suggestion.
I have the flip up HJC with retractable sun shield. You will still need sun glasses since the shield is not that dark. I like having the shield, lower when riding into the sun and retract when going away and the view is much better.
I have a Harley Hybrid and I like it a lot, but it was expensive, and I probably would not buy it again. My advice is to go to a store that has lots of different brands of helmets (usually non-Harley dealers have a better selection), and try on a lot of different helmets to find the one(s) you like, then wear it around the store for a while to see if it stays comfortable.
I have one, cuts wind noise pretty good but picks up more exhaust noise. Sun shield needs to be darker, doesnt make much of a difference the way it is. Sizing runs a little small, I needed one size bigger than usual, but pretty comfortable overall. I will probable get a FF next time. JMHO for what it's worth.
Helmets like many things need to be kept simple.....figure out why your buying one and go from there. Just because it's the latest and greatest means your going to pay for the latest gimmicks. I've also found that the louder your exhaust is, the more it finds it's way into the shell of your helmet. You now know why a lot of folks don't wear one, its a trade off safety for more noise into your helmet. A half will not absorb as much of the noise.
Luckily we have a great after-market m/c parts store here in Omaha. Whenever I researched/located a decent lid - went to NE M/C Parts & they usually have one in stock so I can determine size & verify price (store vs. online). Nice tool to have & some of the better helmets I looked at were HJC, Nolan, Sparx & Scorpion. Good luck w/your search.
If you have a tendency to sweat in your helmet you might want to consider a model with a removable liner that can be washed.
The helmet will probably be a bit more expensive than others that don't have removable liners, but you might find that you won't need to replace a "funky smelling" helmet before its service life is up.
Yeah, yeah... Fabreze will mask the odors, but it won't kill the bacteria that causes the funk to keep coming back.
