A friend of mine wants to sell his 2011 street glide 103", abs, sec and cruise.
480 miles, 1 year left on the warranty.
Bike is sedona orange and all stock.
I offered him 17,5 he wants to hold out for 18,5 what do ya all think?
Paid 18,9 for a new 2011 a few months ago with the powerpak, and I've already got way many more miles on it than that.
Ok, so I chewed on this one for a minute, and just can't let it go.
I just had this conversation with one of the guys I work with.
Here is my 2cents:
These bikes are worth 18k, they just aren't.
I just bought an '11 96in SG about 3 months ago and got a smoking deal on it, all said and done came out about 15k.
I was happy, until I started putting miles on it.
Then I realized, that they got me!
Not the dealer, but the company, the brand.
I've got over 7k in this thing trying to make it, what I consider, ridable.
The seat is uncomfortable, the bars are to low, the floorboards are in to close to the engine, the engine is a sloutch, the suspension(front and back) is crap, the radio package is junk, the list goes on and on....
Most of us don't modify these things just to be cool or look good, most of us modify them cause we found the factory lacking in the product that they sold us.
My advice to you is to find someone that has put a few miles on, that added a bunch of extras and is selling cause they just don't ride it.
15k for a bike with 5k of extras you didn't pay for, way better than starting out stock.
Again, just my opinion.
Flame on!!!!!!!!
A real friend wouldnt try n dry hump ya over a grand....Id walk away on friggin principal. I would also with respect to the friend, unless thats a pay off figure and is exactly whats needed to get the bank off the note, seriously rethink the nature of your association.
I would buy my bike from a dealer If I wanted to get screwed over a grand.
Good luck.
If he holds out for the grand he is screwing his friend, but if the friend holds out for a grand less he's not trying to screw the friend? What kind of logic is that? If the guy needs 18,500 for his bike, how is it that he is dry humpin anyone. How good a friend are you if you think your friend owes you a 1,000 discount.
Want to sell me your bike for 1,000 less than it's worth or what you need for it????
For that much go & buy a brand new one then ride over to his place & rub it in his face. He will be waiting a long time trying to get that money from a private sale. Most people don't have that cash laying around & a bank will not loan the full amount.
NADA shows low retail at 18,800 and average at 21,000. A new one with security, custom color and ABS is 21,694 add 250+ for cruise plus shipping, dealer set up (about 800) and any other charges the dealer decides to tack on.
My bank would definately loan me the full amount of 18,500 for a bike like this, as would HD financing, and you don't have to buy from the dealer to get HD financing. Just go to the local dealer and ask them about HD financing.
After looking at NADA I don't blame him for wanting 18,500 for this bike with only 450 miles on it.

Bill......Its not worth what the seller is asking...... its worth what the buyer is willing to pay....period. I have lots of friends who I buy and sell from and vice versa......bottom line is if they did not owe the full ammount they were holding out for and you offered a grand less then what they thought it was worth then on principal I would not buy it if I didnt have the 18.... I would spend my hard earned money elsewhere. And in this effed up ecconomy he should be greatful for the high offer only a grand under what he wants. Let his *** take it to harley n see if they give him 18.....no way...its used.....as for the friend issue....let your "friend" try craigslist .....after 2 days of low balling bottom feeders he will be thrilled at your offer....... and I promise ....people lowball bad......just wait him out youll end up with it.
My initial comment was simply that if my " friend" and I mean real friend , was selling his and it was paid off, and he wanted 18 and I offered 17 cuz thats all I had, hed do it...thsts how friends work....I m assuming you dont have the extra otherwise you wouldnt be haggling over a grand either since its worth it.......that said I think friends help out friends. If all you got is 17 and he dont need the 18 for payoff he shoud throw ya the bone and hook u up...but if its the other way around give him the 18.....fair is fair in the world of friends.....
Peace.
