If you decide to paint it, make sure you just paint the backside of the shield. Leave the front clear, and it will look great. Then you won't have the bugs, chips, or paint pealing in the future. Let us know how it goes.
I have the dark smoke Klock shield. Its not clear. Will that make a difference?

I've painted the inside of a couple of shields. Had to sand the heck out of them to get 'em to even hold the paint, and the paint had to be applied in light layers. Apply it too heavily and you'll be starting over. That said, I like the look (black shield, black bike) and it works great to hide a windshield pouch.
