Hey pswomack,

Thanks for posting the pic and I swear that looks like the Biketronics kit from the other pictures posted.

What are your thoughts?

Pauly,

I'm in the same exact boat as you, I decided it's time to ditch the HD radio about 3 days ago, and ever since I've been driving myself nuts trying to figure out what head unit and what install kit I wanted to go with. I think the best might end up being using the Biketronics electronics (they sell them seperately if you call, $160) and the Hawg-Wired mounting hardware ($135). Now for the head unit, I also wanted bluetooth capability to play my Pandora from my droid, but I also wanted the be able to hook in my iPod and skip songs using my handlebar controls. Finally, to make this all harder, I don't want to spend an arm and a leg on a head unit...lol I think I narrowed it down to the JVC KD-X50BT, which just recently came out and has all of the above features. You can also change the back lighting to match your gauge setup.

Good luck with your system, hope it all works out well for you.

The difference is the cradle that the radio sits in, Hawg Wired is an all metal cradle that the radio bolts in and the cradle bolts to the fairing support brackets where the Biketronics kit that my friend got has 2 spacers (look like particle board) that bolt to the side of the radio then to the support brackets in the fairing. Both kits feature the same metal faceplate that takes up the space between the fairing and radio. You can't go wrong with either kit as both are nice and do what they were designed to, so it's really just a personal prefference. Just read up on the both kits and decide which you like best, I did buy the cover that pops into the fairing from Biketronics to keep the radio dry when washing or getting caught in the rain, very nice and a must have without a marine radio.

i am in the same boat thinking i want the bt controls with the hw mount..

correct me if i am wrong but the bt mount kit has a flat metal plate that takes up the difference between the smaller din and the stock hk where as the hw kit actually has a gasket that runs around the front trim piece that is more like the factory hk headunit shape?

I have the basic Biketronics kit for the FLHT and it is an outstanding system. The faceplate that takes up the space between the radio and fairing is plastic, not metal, and the mounting system is solid and top notch. Having the automatic volume control is great also. The basic Sony radio works and sounds awesome and has MP3 port, CD, USB port also. All the existing factory controls work with this kit. Only drawback is it is not waterproof, but a plastic covers comes with the kit that can be used to cover it up in the rain or washing.

What makes the BT controls so desirable? Its my understanding the only difference is the AVC which BT does and HW doesn't.

Milleda31,

What head unit is this? Does it feature built-in bluetooth or did you have to add that on? It looks awesome! Also what cradle is that holding your Droid?

I am going to put my 2 JL Audio Amps and MB Quarts Component Set from my prior SUV on Craigslist and eBay and hopefully be able to "sponsor" my Street Glide Head Unit upgrade. This option will go over much easier with my "accountant"!
Sorry for the delay in responding, I wasn't following this thread.

The deck is the Sony DSX-S310BTX as shown on the Sony website here. Crutchfield had it on sale when I bought it for $179.00 with free shipping. The Bluetooth is built in...nothing else to buy.

The cradle for my phone is The Rider's Claw as shown here.

http://ridersclaw.com/

The only downside to it is the tendency for phones to be upgraded every couple of years...these mounts are model specific. Have to see how long my Droid X holds out before it becomes obsolete.

You can PM me or post here if you have further questions.
