I have never toured on a Heritage but went from a Wide Glide with windshield and bags to a Road King. The quality of the Road King ride is vastly better.
Funny - I started with a '04 Wide Glide, bags, windshield; #2 was a Road King with Cruise; #3 is a Road Glide - I think I'll be on this one a long time!

I like the handling of the Road King Classic over the softtail.

I think the versatility of the Road King gives it the advantage over most of the soft tails and some of the other baggers....my only regret is I don't have a fairing with a radio for riding to work everyday....

I would "ditto" everything said above, in favor of the RK and/or EG -- EDMO hit it on the head. But in addition to all that has been said is the "feel" of the bike at highway speeds. I had a '03 Heritage that I loved -- beautiful bike and nicely done to my taste. However, with the engine being mounted to the frame and counterbalanced, it was smooth at idle -- but got "buzzy" at 70 mph and higher. With my Ultra, the engine is rubber-mounted and, while it vibrates at idle, it just keeps getting smoother the faster I go. At 80 mph it hits a "harmonic convergance" that is something to be experienced... Smooth, smooth, smooth... Everyone else has hit on the ride features and creature comforts, so I'll not repeat those. For me, while I loved my Heritage, I'd never go back from what I have now.
