Here's one reason I have a Dragonfly fairing. The mounting brackets are stainless, extend all the way through the inner fairing and attach at the top and bottom. When the inner and outer fairings are joined, the entire fairing becomes very rigid, vibration free, and will stay that way for years. I don't want to have to repaint my fairing after a couple of years due to stress cracks around the mounting points. Not saying a Reckless (or Hoppe, or DeadCenter, etc) would have problems in that area, but I've never seen a Dragonfly with stress cracks in the paint, and I have seen some other fairings with visible spider webbing near the bottom attach points.

I have zero hands-on knowledge of the recent Reckless fairings. I do know the early ones were spotty in terms of quality, but I don't believe that's true anymore. The same could be said for Dragonfly, as well, the early fairings were hand-laid fiberglass, and not nearly as high quality as the more current ones.

I'm not sure what your taking about?
When I hear fork damper I think of a big **** that is on the triple tree like on the old British bikes. You state in the fork. Ok, do you mean in the strut?

The struts on the my '06 Road King are the same strut as a touring bike with a fairing with one exception of a valve pack inside the strut. Only found that out looking at the FSM's.

I've got a thread on the 2010 Deluxes we have with our Reckless Fairings mounted. Can't say enough about how well they work! We got the optional wind wing deflectors and it is ultimate wind protection. Harley should s**t can the crap they call their OEM fairings on their baggers and install these Reckless ones. My HD fairing brackets were always breaking. The windshield screws were destroying their little mounts on the inner fairing. The wind wings cracked and crapped out within a year. This product that Alex puts out at Reckless is wonderful. It is sturdy, has no flexing(and we've had 'em up to 85 mph on the interstate) and they look damn nice. The price is $450 out the door(that includes the optional wind wing deflectors and shipping, but with no speakers or radio...who needs that junk anyway...sing the tunes in your head for cripes sake!)

Here is what I got back from Alex when I e-mailed him with the question about the XL

Dan,

The Xl fairing is a completely different design, much bigger than the normal batwing and also different stereo components!

Regards
Alex

I have been shopping fairings for a month or so and have done a lot of research.....Dragonfly...no doubt....seems like it has the best structure....but Hoppe, Dead Center, Woody's etc....must think the standard mounting attachment is ok or dont you think they would change it ???

I am curious to hear from some owners of the Reckless..which in m opinion seems like a decent unit for less than half the cost of the Dragonfly and the others... Have they experienced any "stress" cracking around the mounts....or any serious vibration issues ?

To me they all have the same look when mounted....maybe there are some quality differences...but are they enough to spend an extra 1k on them...? I wonder. Fluff or Fact...what do you think.
