Why do you people store your bikes up on a jack? It's an accident waiting to happen, & way to "trendy" for me.

Thanks for the ideas. I went back out this AM after reading the posts and it looks like I might be able to push the ram back into the bottle jack so I can remove it and work on it. Thanks for the replies. Last night I was just stumped as to how do I get the bike off the jack so I could work on it. 800+ pounds is just too much to lift.

Dickey, I had mine on the lift initially to work on it, but since it took up so much less space and allowed me to easily move it around and store in tight places, that it just made sense to leave it on the lift. With the locks down there is no chance for it to come down on its own and the jack is extremely stable. I have no concerns about it falling off. Never anticipated I might not be able to get down though.

I had the same problem, I was able to eventually able to get mine to lift. I know my j&s had to be flipped over to take the bottle jack off, because I put the nuts in the bottom.

Good luck, maybe you can get the old bottle off and just set another one in place to get it down if it's not just low

auto parts places have hydraulic jack fluid with a additive to fix leaks. my thought is it swells the o rings a little and makes them soft. anyway. pull the little rubber plug on the side of the jack and add fluid and replace the plug. open the valve slightly and pump 10 time then close the valve and pump the jack. it should lift the bike until you can unlock the metal levers and lower the bike slowly. get J&S to send you a new and improved jack, even if you have to pay its better than the ones that came on the jack.
I agree with Dickey. storing a motor cycle on a lift is looking for trouble.

I have just the opposite problem, can't get it up. Ooh wait wrong thread, we are talking about jacks here.
I also store my bike up on the jack in the summer as it takes up much less space. I store it in another place in the winter. No problem leaving it against the stops.
I a pitbull lift.

Call J&S and ask them how you would do it...its their jack they should be able to tell you ( telling them you bought the jack from someone else is not necessary unless they ask).

And after using the above advice, the jack was fixed in seconds and the motorcycle was safely lowered to the floor.....
