Glen1978,

I knew about the cables and wires, but from some of the pics that I have seen, it looked like I might be able to keep the fairing mirrors. At least that is what I was hoping for. Thanks for the information

Thanks. I knew about the brake line and the harness wires but from everything I read you had to at least re-route the clutch cable. I didnt have to touch it other than unbolt it from old bars and bolt it back to new ones.

Got everything I thought I would need to pull the wires thru.....shrinkwrap, chinese handcuff wire puller from Klein tools, wire lube and guitar string. Day before yesterday I start on removing the old bars and everything went without a hitch other than figuring out how to roll fairing forward to get at the handlebar bolts. Anyhow got them off and then removed controls/wiring. Made me a wiring schematic of the plugs and pulled the plugs apart. Removed the factory sheathing and put new 1/2" heat shrink on controls and 3/8" on the TBW wiring.

Yesterday I got everything out to start the pulling process. Dropped some fishing string with a small nut on the end thru and tied onto my guitar string and pulled back thru. Tied the guitar string to Klein tool and put my TBW harness into it. Got it about half way or better thru top bend and snap, yep guitar string broke. This slacked off my Klein tool and let my TBW harness come loose leaving my Klein tool in the bars, STUCK!! Oh my my, already having flashbacks of doing this 6 years ago on my FXST. I found a fishing jig and tied it up to the fishing line and went fishing for my Klein tool and got it after several attempts. IM PISSED now already.

I decided to call my local indy and see what he would charge me........."yep I can do it for around $50 bucks! SEE YOU IN 10 MINUTES!! I got there and he saw the strange top bend of the Yaffe bars and said, "well it may be a little more". I ask him if he thought he could get them done today and he said I should be able to. I handed him a $100 dollar bill and they were ready in less than 1.5 hours. BEST $100 BUCKS I HAVE SPENT IN ALONG TIME!! Got home and mounted them up so they felt best (nearly against the fairing) and routed the wires. A little tricky.....smaller hands would have helped. The left side controls gave me the most grief, TBW was simple.

I didnt really wana have to mess with the clutch and guess what, I DIDNT! Didnt do a thing to it except unbolt it from the stock bars and let it hang. Put PYO bars on and bolted it right back up, perfect! Got everything back on minus the outer fairing since Im waiting on my DDM HID kit to show up. Here is a nearly finished pic.

That the problem running stuff through bars. You can loose em in there. I just double up 18ga wire and used that to run the wire bundles through. First time around I tried one wire. It broke. Then doubled it up and it worked fine.
For those attempting to do this, keep in mind its more of a push than a pull to get past that first top bend.
I have a write up if you search prime apes install streetglide if you need tips or help.
Bars look real nice. Congrats.

Shane....when you paint your inner fairing...fill the mirror holes and go with regular mirrors.....you'll be glad someday later on down the road.

I mentioned this on the thread I did on my ape install.....hand lotion wokrs great for lubing the wires when pulling through the bars.....it dries and evaporates after install, but is as slick as snot during install.....the key is use ALOT of it. Once the wires are in, you won't have a problem.....the wires just have to survive the install....so be kind to that insulation on them....use a liberal amount of the lotion.

These 10" bars....will be higher when you someday put a lower seat on the bike.....just something to keep in mind...when guys are sizing bars, they need to keep in mind that the seat being used will make a huge difference in how their arms hang.

Everything you're doing here looks great, Glen.

I might have to look into the Ness mirrors....I reversed my mirrors to try that out, but not real happy with that, so I'm looking...

Are you still happy you got a bagger? Some guys aren't....they're too heavy and bulky for them....jsut curious.

Im also not sure I want my hands above the fairing after my 38 degree ride on my FXST to go pick up the SG. I really dont wanna get into swapping cables and crap out either but would if its a have to do type thing. Wanting to go with black bars this time around also. What all is out there that might closely fit my needs. I rode other day and seems you can get your hands just slightly above the fairing before it really catches wind......I guess due to the airflow around the fairing.

Lets hear it!!
Check out the Khrome Werks Fat Bagger apes. I just installed the 12" model on my FLHX and love them. You can get them in chrome or black. I had to change out all cables, but with the wires ran internal and new Magnum cables, the bike looks much better.

There are also less expensive than PYO or Wild ones. I paid $150 shipped to my door.

The difference over stock is amazing - the comfort is amazing and no more back pain after an hour in the saddle. I'm 6' tall if you need to know.

Yeah Traveler Im glad I got the bagger, I love it. My HID lights and Ness mirrors should be here by the time I get home next week. Gona put them on and put some miles on this ole girl pending its not super cold. Also got the 4 pt docking system and sissy bar for the wife put on last week. It was rather disturbing to see how easy the hard bags come off!!
