If you use the 'Search this forum' and enter 'quick release tourpak' you'll get plenty of threads you can check, to see what others are doing.

Quick release is nice, but quick release like this is even better. At least you don't have to worry about your pack being broken into if it's in the hotel room with you...

If you can't install in yourself, you don't need it.
Nice to know the guts are a little less than I thought. I've always had the 500 number rolling around in my head. I think there is more to it than this though.

-Ya gotta buy an antenna relo. Or more likely one for inside your fairing.
-Ya gotta buy a license plate relo.
-Some may feel ya gotta buy a sissy bar (I wouldn't be one of them)
-Gotta buy caps for when docking isn't in place? (I know it's just looks, but...)
-Maybe gotta buy a kit to lock it? Someone in here suggested $50.

Mighta missed something, but that was off the top of my head. Without the sissy bar you are damn close to $500. Oh, forgot about a harness maybe to aid in Ultra wiring? That'll push ya over $500. God only knows what labor might be. I do my own stunts so I never pay labor.

This job was supposed to be the very first thing I did. was supposed to be worked into the deal. Either that or bought at a discount at time of purchase, but dealer wouldn't give me a parts discount at time of purchase. So I started riding with it and planning to buy the QD smart. Ended up getting so used to it I'm not sure what I'd do without it. Go shopping with it, grocery with it, and even pick up large pizzas with it. Since I ride to work it also fits a laptop bag daily that won't fit in the side bags. Nevermind all the money I didn't spend on QD stuff.

I could probably find a smaller laptop bag though. Still thinking about it. Am sure I'll do it when I get around to stretched bags and fender, but that might be a pipe dream.

I hate the way my bike looks and handles with the tourpack. When my wife is with me I put on the tourpack and sundowner. When we get home before I ride to work the next day that tourpack and sundowner is hanging on the wall. Never on the bike unless she is.

When I bought my 09 I got the quick release with the store credit I recieved. Did the work myself, actually with the junk tools the bike came with. I haven't put the TP back on since then. Kind of a waste huh? Well no, ended up buying a quick detach sissy bar for my wife and daughter. They rode without a backrest for a while but scared they would slide right off. I did want another seat too, bought an 09 road glide seat. Thicker then SG, but less then the stock EG. I think it was worth it. Spend the money, work more hours, buy something else.

I put it on my 2011 FLHTK and really like the looks more than anything else. I also removed the wide rear blinkers and put the Streetglide blinkers on the back. Bought the sissy bar and luggage rack and Streetglide seat and couldn't be happier. If I'm going on a trip, I pop on the tourpak. If not I use the luggage rack. It's not hard to just remove and run without it but you will need a license plate bracket to replace the one on the tourpak bracket.

If you need them I will try to get pics of all the variations but it will take a few days.

I love mine. It really does seem like having two seperate bikes. Took the wife shopping the other day and told her she could only buy what would fit on the bike. She insisted I put the TP back on and she bought everything she would have if we had our cage. Worked against me in this case.

What he said! I have a 2013 flhtc and I took the detach kit I had on my 2011 RK and put it on the classic. Rides and handle a lot better, feels like the RK. Only problem is I am looking for a rear location mount for the antenna. They are to expensive so guess I will have to make one.
That and relocate the license plate.
