I have a 11 flhrc and I am researching putting a gps on it..right now I have a tomtom and while it is easy to use, I can't see the screen in the bight sun....Sooo, I am thinking maybe a zumo, ...any advise for you all on what is good and not good will be taken into account before I buy..also this will be a handlebar mounted unit, which I believe is different then the full dressers, so I need to take that into account, also any info on good/ better handlebar mounts would be appreciated...
most zummos come with a good handlebar (or clutch perch )mount.i use the 450 for 5 years it died got a 550 refurb for 140$ to replace, both good units easy to see in most sun, only bad in full on direct. there also a bunch of aftermarket mounts available as well.
how does the brightness of the zumo in sunlight compare to the garmin and does the garmin charge the battery when it is plugged into the computer??? I ask because my bike is already wired for usb on the handlebars and hopefully I will be able to just plug the garmin into the usb plug on the handlebars to charge it....whereas the zumo has a special mount that is only good for the zumo....
zummo and nuvi are both garmin, all zummo are designed for bikes, many nuvis will work fine at a better price, the only nuvi i know is water proof is the 500 or 550,the zummo is easier to see in sun.and i know the zummos charge on usb,not sure on nuvis but think so.

I use the Garmin 62st. It's waterproof, has great readability under direct sunlight and runs around 30 hours on it's two cells.
A few days ago my cheap asian power supply died at noon because of heat and sea water but I had plenty of battery power left to reach destination. Rinse the unit under tap water and it's ready for the next day. This is really a versatile unit and a worthy investment.
Nuvi will charge by USB works great but cannot see during sunlight thats when I hook up to radio to hear directions I use the ram mount with power supply hooked inside the faring...
