Pierre. I live in Ontario. Can you tell me how much your unit cost? I looked at it at the Toronto bike show last weekend and the dealer wanted $979 for it.

I have an '05 UC. I installed the Harley GPS fairing mounting kit (eBay $35.00) and the Garmin Quest GPS (eBay $225.00). The sound plays through the stereo speakers through the AUX input. Great set-up only if you have a fairing.

I chose the HD Conquest with the fairing mount on my 06 Ultra. Several reasons I decided to go with this instead of the radio upgrade:

1. Price - the radio upgrade is very expensive for what you're getting.

2. The radio upgrade stays with that bike only. I can use the Quest on my Suzuki or in my car or walking around. It has a 20 hr battery life and is shirt pocket small.

3. Easier interface. You can chart your route in your easy chair with the Quest. I'm pretty sure that all the input has to done sitting on your bike through the radio buttons on the radio unit. That would get old real quick.

4. Maps - while I don't spend a lot of time watching it on the road, the color screen is very visible. The screen on the radio unit will look just like the cd or radio screen - very little contrast.

5. Placement - I don't like things mounted on the handlebars and didn't want to look down at the handlebar or the radio when using the GPS. The fairing mount is just to the right of my line of sight, so I don't have to take my eyes off the road to read it.

I couldn't be happier with the Conquest unit on the fairing mount.

How do you feel about drilling holes in your inner fairing? I bought the Garmin 2720 Streetpilot to install on my Ultra and used the HD handle bar mount that I re-engineered to fit the Garmin. Didn't like it on the handle bars either. I'm thinking about mounting it on the fairing like you did. Is the fairing strong enough to hold the setup?

You can only mount the Garmin Quest on the Harley Fairing Mount. It is designed specifically for the Garmin Quest. Garmin Quest is the one that Harley uses for its accessories in the HD Catalog.

I just installed the Zumo last week and it's great. It comes with two cradles for the handlebars and the car windshield mount. The display is large enough that if you can't plug it into your radio you can read the turns off the screen. In the car you can hear it fine.

I had already drilled out the left side for the HD radar detector. Now I have a matched set. I'm keeping the bike a long time and am not worried about the drilled holes. The backplate in the hotshoe kit means you really can't go wrong and drill it incorrectly. The inner fairing can be replaced if I ever sell or trade it or just leave the hot shoes in place for the next owner. They don't look out of place. Don't know about the 2720 but the Quest 2 works with the HD mount. It's the same thing as the Conquest without the HD markings and dealer locations. The fairing is plenty strong. There's a little shaking at idle but you can still read everything OK. It smoothes out once you get moving. I really like the location since I don't have to look down to read the screen. I've seen people looking down at their GPS in traffic and it looks dangerous to me.
