Default Header Pipe Swap

I have a '12 Ultra and these have the catalytic converters in them stock now. I have a stock set of header pipes from my '09 FLTR I traded in........the service guy at my dealer said the part number is the same for the 09 pipe as the 12 pipe.....just the 12 has the cat in it now. He said they'd fit....looking closer at my new bike, it looks like the O2 sensors are near the collector and not up on the pipe near the heads like on the 09.....they look smaller too.....WTH??

Are these the o2 sensors I'm looking at down there??

You are correct----The 09 headpipe has the O2 sensors up by the heads and uses larger sensors, the 2010 and later pipe has them located down by the trans and the sensors are smaller....they are NOT inter-changeable for that reason. Other than that, the pipe itself fits. You would use the 09 pipe if you went with a tuner that required the larger O2 sensors such as a T-Max or a Revolution Performance EMS system.

Ditto - O2 sensors changed location/size from 09 to 10+ touring. You can get aroud this by buying a tuner & plugging them off...

Thanks guys. I'll get the cat cut out and re-welded I guess......Can they do that while still on the bike or do they have to remove the pipes altogether??

Pipe has to come off to cut it, remove the cat and re-weld it..

or

You could buy a Fullsac "X" pipe which is a true stepped header, no cat and ceramic coated to reduce heat. I think they will also take your pipe in on trade if you want. www.fullsac.com

That X Pipe looks like the way to go......that and some slip ons will improve the sound I imagine.....when I can afford a tuner and dyno I can get a new air cleaner.....

Thanks.

So the X-pipe will accept the new smaller O2 sensors, correct?

As mentioned below, the Fullsac for the 2012 uses the smaller plugs...again, just make sure you order the correct header.

FWIW, I'm using the Fullsac on my 2012 Ultra with good results. The header fits well, retains the stock shields, and uses the stock gaskets (be sure to replace the gaskets). Heat is greatly reduced without the cat.

As a side note, I use the TTS MasterTune and had to lower the Lambda in the first couple columns to eliminate the occasional decel popping. Your results may be vary.

Good luck!
