i have the 440's. They were expensive I thought. 680 bucks. It stopped the stock shock issues but I wasnt overly impressed with ride. Kinda stiff one up.

Just ordered the 940's and got a pretty good price at the following shop:

http://5240.webpossystem.com/ViewPro...ber=940-4020UT

$465.95 + free shipping

The following link will take you to a video of how they function:

http://www.jcmotors.com/p-20612-prog...-models-1.aspx

Progressive is coming out with a 944 in March so prices on the 940's should be dropping a bit...

I’m thinking about ordering a set of 2-3s from Howard and continue using the lowering blocks to maintain my seat height. I feel that I need the maximum travel these shocks provide for the roads I travel so his other shorter shocks are out. Am I way off base? Should I look at alternatives such as seat replacement to keep my seat height? Thanks for your opinions.
On second thought, I may not even need the lowering blocks. I was not taking in to account the fact that I will have 1 3/8" sag when these Olin 2-3s are set with the proper preload. Problem solved, hopefully.
I'm so excited. I might pee my pants waiting on my new Olins.

So it's my time for new rear suspension, I have been following several threads regarding rear shocks over the past year. I have a buddy who purchased some Ohlins a few months back and was not very impressed with the ohlins based on all the hype. It appears the progressive shocks are close to $300. less than the ohlins and are far better then the oem. I wonder how many riders could actually tell the difference between Ohlin-Progressive and Ricor in a blind test. So unless I'm missing something it looks like the progressive 440 is the best bang for the buck at $437. shipped, the 940's are nice but I'm not sure I would like my RG lower. Please weigh in if you have any better suggestions or input. So far it's +1 on the 440's for me.

Another great, less expensive solution is to send your factory shocks to the guys at Phoenix Cuxtoms/Bitchin' Baggers and have them work their magic on them. They shortened a set of 13's for me to just under 12 inches and they ride way better than the stock ones did at 13 inches. I think it was around a hundred bucks... been using them three years now...no problems at all.......

That is too bad that your friend was not satisfied with the Ohlins. They are a performance damper not really a comfort damper. The Ohlins website goes into great detail about the history and the racing heritage of Ohlins. I guess he did get caught up in the hype. They may need to be re-valved to better suit his style. I hope he can get them set up better to suit him. He should try, if he hasn't already, to contact the dealer he purchased them through for some after sale support.

You could also give the HD premium touring shocks a try...preload adjustment on the left side...I believe they were around $400 at 20% off and they work pretty well for me riding 2-up...waaaaay better than stock...

Where did you pay 680.00 for them. Progressive 440 and 940 are easily available from many vendors for about $ 450.00 give or take 20.00. For $600.00 you could have gone Ohlin, Works, Terrycable or almost any of the high end shocks.

You RG will be sitting lower even with the 440 vs the stock HD Shocks because with the 440 you will set them up with about 1" of sag when you are on it , something that I could never get out of the HD air shocks. Even with 0psi in them I never got more than 0.25-0.5 " of rider sag solo that was one of the big problems with the HD Air was they are way over sprung IMO. So the 13" 440 will be about the height of a 12" HD Air shock when you are on it.

Take a look at the new 944 or the 444 Progressive is releasing March , they use a new damping system called "FST" and sound interesting.

Im using the 940 with lighter springs and an happy with the improvement over the stock
