Ok I may be wrong but I have heard everyone on here say that installing lower is not a hard job. I call a local shop and they told me it is like $800 to install chrome lowers on a street glide and that is harley style lowers. So if I buy the chrome lowers from ebay what else would I need to purchase in order to do the install myself
...that's INSANE!..a cam job is like 4 -5 hours...lower leg chrome swap is like 4 hours...I think those tasks are a little more complicated than installing Lowers...I don't have lowers on my bike(EGC)...but they CAN'T be that complicated....wow..$800!!...RUN from that dealer...get a manual and do it yourself, I'll bet it's easy....good luck
$800.00 sounds high, even if it includes the cost of the lowers. I've seen lowers on ebay for $400.00 (not chrome ones by the way). Never had mine off, but it doesn't look difficult, even for the most novice of wrench turners.
Buy the genuine Harley lowers and put them on yourself. You can find some threads on here to help you out. You will save about half of what you have been quoted. Plus, you will learn a lot about your bike.
I just had my front end lowered and while I was at it I had them chrome the front forks. Check out this advertized winter special. $649.oo for the chrome front end includes parts and installation. I had the lowering kit then put in just for the cost of parts since they had the front end off. http://vreelandsharley.com/
$800 for labor sounds way too high. My local dealership charged me $800 for a new Chrome front end kit installed. I believe the kit was around $500. I'd jump on the $649 winter special!

that was parts and labor, I found an auction on ebay for $215 for the lowers and I feel like I can do the work myself. My question is more about what else will I have to purchase to do the install

I would recommend genuine HD chrome front end kit. The quality of some aftermarket chrome is garbage.
If you do buy aftermarket lowers, don't forget the cow bells. And the axle covers. And if you're really **** the chrome axle spacers...
