Thanks, just ordered one to replace my faulty Harley one.
~Joe
Just ordered one as well. This will be my first oil temp gauge so looking forward to checking it out. Now if I can save up for that jagg oil cooler with fan me and my glide will be content as far as engine heat issues are concerned.
I had the owner of the company do the install when he was down here for the rally.
It is the most expensive of the oil coolers, but they guarantee a 35 degree drop in temp.
These 96's and above run hot... and that's no joke..
I've recently installed a Jagg Fan Assisted Oil Cooler and have been reading this Thread regarding an Oil Temp Guage replacing the worthless Air Temp Guage. Then I'm thinking of the hassle of removing the Air Temp Guage and installing the HD Oil Temp Guage, etc, etc.
Then I remembered HD has a LCD Oil Dip Stick that will give me my Oil Temp plus tell me my fuild level without having to even remove the dip stick. Link is below and this little bugger isn't cheap $149.95 but the HD Oil Guage runs $139.95 plus I have to install it. Either way I can go onto LSHD1's web site and get a 20% discount and not pay any sales tax (7%) here.
Anyway, I know it's nice to be able to see your Oil Temp all the time with the Guage, but with the dip stick I get two functions: Oil Temp and Oil Level. Just figured I'd pass this along.
The difference is the thick hashmarks clearly represent the numbers, at least there a few known refernce points on that gauge. Post a good closeup pic of the HD gauge and try to tell if the thick hashmarks or the dots represent the numbers. Also most common gauges are not linear or have the same hashmark spacing across the whole scale. The exception is a gauge with a stepper motor like the AutoMeter I posted the link to, it has an evenly spaced scale, so you can tell a value for each un-numbered hashmark.

I bought one to double check my Roger McEwan oil guage to make sure it was working correctly and it was. As soon as that was determined the HD Digital was sold, on this site. The McEwan matches the silver gauges too, and works with about any oil cooler too I think, or for sure w/the HD one as well as the Oil bud cooler which I have..FWIW.

Good luck with that....they are notorious for breaking, moisture in the gauge and such. I would not recommend one of these. The install of the gauge is very easy and you can see it while you are riding. Friend had one of the dipstick gauges and he tried to remove it for an oil change and the top came off in his hand. Then it was very hard to extract the piece in the filler neck. Do a search on them.
Guess I placed my order too late. phatperformanceparts just notified me of the following: "I was just notified that Roger is no longer going to be making these gauges. The only ones available are black and aluminum. "
Anyone know anything about those autometers that were available on ebay? Some of them went for under 50 bucks. ???
There are many different Autometer oil temp gauges available. Most retail for over 150 dollars. Autometer is an excellent gauge. fabrik8r did a lot of investigating on what works and what doesn't in this application. You can either use the gauge part number he has already confirmed works, or go it on your own and use another pn and take your chances.
