Just noticed that. Ive seen many posts here regarding size 2 1/16. Lookins at the HD parts list for an oil temp gauge it lists one that fits my 2006 Ultra as 2"......hmmmmm

Buy the dipstick type. It tells you the oil temp immediately and gives you the temp of the oil as it sits in the pan. The guage type tends to read the oil slightly inaccurately, usually the temp on the guage is a bit cooler than the actual oil temp, because as the guage gets it's reading, the line coming from the motor cools slightly, giving a slightly cooler reading.
The dipstick one reads the temp as it sits.

I thought the gauge was a 2" also. But as you stated, all the post I have read say the 2-1/16" fits perfectly! I hope it does, because my 2-1/16" R.M. will be here tomorrow. Or maybe Tuesday as tomorrow is a holiday. Whenever, I hope it fits!

I put my sender in the pan and most everybody I know puts the sender in the pan regardless of where the instructions included with the HD gauge tells you to put it.

I broke this down on the molecular level last year, with pictures and all. The dipstick and the pan sender port are only a few inches apart no significant temp difference between those two locations, maybe 1-2 degrees.

I think I am going with the oil gauge type that you have.

-1 (or more precisely: -1,000) for Surdyke. I had an oil gauge on backorder with them for 2 months. They stopped answering my emails and didn't return my calls so I had to force a chargeback refund through my credit card. Funny thing is I got an email offering a refund 2 days after initiating the chargeback..hmmmm????

I'd absolutely go with LSHD. Awesome customer service and 20% off...they can't be beat!
