Default Vance and Hines Monster Oval Issue Question

The rubber grommet that fits between the muffler bracket and the bike bracket is sliding forward. This happened before, but last time I didn't notice it in time and it slid completely out. Not sure why this is happening, especially that it slides forward, not backwards. You woud think that they would slide towards the back of the bike, not forward.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a fix for this?

I am attaching a couple of pictures.

I believe I reversed mine so they would not move forward....The rubber grommets should have lips that extend up and or down past the bracket, it will not be able to walk forward. Been a few years but I think I had the same issue.

Looking at your pictures, there is no rubber lip keeping the grommet from moving forward.Flip them around and see if the lip is now towards the rear of the bike.

Also, keep them sprayed with silicone spray or some type of rubber protector.

Right now the tab that it's supposed to keep it from sliding is towards the back of the bike, but they still slide.

I dont know the part number but Harley did redesign that grommet to make it longer to eliminate that issue. I have switched to the newer design grommet for my V&H Monster Ovals for the same reason described by the original poster

My bike is a 2012 Street Glide. Does the 2012 bikes have the new version of the grommet?

Also, as is visible in the first picture, the grommet does have the tab that is supposed to stop it from sliding, but it's getting pressed down and it slides anyway.

Thats actually an interesting idea. I have this same problem, the rubber thing comes out (moves toward the front of the bike, and of course it causes a terrible rattle when you hit the smallest road imperfection).

I had it in for apes and headers, when he put it back he put a couple of pieces of strap wire on either side of the tongue to hold it in, but I worry that eventually it will tear the rubber. See pic below, I'm not sure I'm too thrilled with this solution, but I'll wait to see how it goes.

I had a similar problem on my 2003 FLHT with the rubber bushing sliding. Just slide a good size plastic tie in there and secure it

There's a tab on top of the grommet that is in front of the mount, take the grommet out and install it from the rear so the tab won't let it slide forward , that worked for me on two different SG
