chrome front end kit

I am looking into installing this kit on the front of my 05 standard this winter. I was thinking the lowers and covers could be installed on the bike without taking the forks completely off of the bike. The dealer told me it could not be done without taking them off, which would mean the fairing would have to come off, etc. I thought there was a magazine article or a post at one time showing the front tires removed and the lower forks could then be taken off the sliders.
