+1 for getting rid of the windshield. Don't use mine much at all.
This eliminates both your problems of:
(a) deciding to look through or over you shield and also
(b) worrying about the bugs on you windshield (although they may be on your eyeballs instead, but it's a lot more fun).
Not to hijack the thread but how tall are your handlebars? I've been wanting the same exact windshield and I plan on swapping my WO 12.5" for 14" and was wondering how close they will get to the LRS windshield. Looks like you have your positioned the way I like mine as well.
I have an authentic Harley Windshield for sale if anyone's interested with the leather HD windshield pouch & HD emblems. There are no scratches or scuffs and it is a quick release. REally nice!! http://woodard2009.ecrater.com/p/124...ase-windshield
Not sure which bike this will fit, but have been told maybe a softtail or Heritage. Any info would be great!!
I look over the top and focus down the road. I've still got the stock OEM bars on, but changing out next weekend to WO 12.5" apes, that may move my line of sight a bit. But, I'll just have to adjust because these stock bars gotta go.
I've got the same ride...same shield, but I'm 2" taller and that's what makes all the difference. I would like to look into a Long Ride Shield though to push that air a bit higher. Whatever your decision, I'd figure out a way to look over the shield. Looking through it would really bother me!
I'm probably between 6'1" and 6'2" at this point (used to be closer to 6'3" before beating down my cartilage over a lifetime) and I look over the top of mine. I would not like looking through it. I am considering a LRS also because of wind buffeting but want to make suer the buffeting I am experiencing is coming over the top, not under as others have suggested to me.
I had the exact same issue with my 11 RK. My 02 RK stock windshield was the perfect height to look over, so I was surprised that I was looking through part of the 11 shield. I was going to spring for a shorter shield right off the bat, but decided to put it off for a bit. I never thought I would, but I got used to it after a couple months and it doesn't bother me anymore. Also I rarely ride with the shield. I put it on when it is below 50 degrees or threatening to rain, otherwise I enjoy it much better without. That is one of the main reasons I bought another RK, to have a shield option.
You want to look just over the windshield, not through it. In rain or fog you'll be blinded if you cant look over the top of it.
As a rule of thumb I like the top of the windshield to be about even with my upper lip when seated comfortably on the bike. This still pushes the wind up and over you and avoids helmet buffeting, yet you can see over it and avoid glare, fogging, etc.
