Default Need Exhaust Help !

Good Morning Fellow Gliders -

I'm sure this has been covered many a time before, and yes I did do a search, but did not quite find the answers I was looking for.

I need help removing my stock exhaust, particularly the right side. My problem is with the 1/8" thick clamp that holds the head pipe to the trans bracket. The service manual tells me to remove floorboard and brackets and to slide headpipe forward out of the clamp. I was thinking it would be much easier to remove the trans clamp completely, thus negating the need to remove so much of the floorboard componentry. My only concern is the thickness and metal composition of that clamp. I am afraid that if I open it up enough to get it off the pipe, I will damage it. Also, my new Bassani right side headpipe, has at least 12" more that would need to slide back through the clamp if I followed the manuals directions.

Please help !

Go ahead and open it up, you won't damage it. You may need some good wide jaw pliers to squeeze it back into shape when you re-install it. They are pretty flexable and won't brake.

Don't worry, if you break it I'm sure that BountyHunter has a spare clamp that he would gladly send you...

open the clamp up, it should be fine. I find that WD40 makes life easier.

One word of caution when removing the exaust, be VERY carefull pulling them off. Lots of sharp pointy stuff to ding your chrome. Just ask me how I know![:@]
