I'm in the process of moving, and am home for a week. I have to head back down south next week for work and I'm wondering if my RK will fit in the back of my buddy's ford super crew. Anyone know for sure? It's a 800 mile trip and I can't locate a u haul bike trailer anywhere in minnesota. Thanks
You didn't mention the year, yet I know a 'o4 will fit in an 8'trailer with the front tire overlapping the front (1' high) rail just 1".
If you are towing another trailer I still think you could make it work by loading the bike diagonally with tail-gate up on an 8' bed, if short bed, It might work with taillgate down, but probably no way to tow a trailer and don't hold me to it.
My RKC fit in the back of an 8' bed F350, but the tailgate had to be down, it couldn't close because of the fishtails. If it's as far forward as possible it will fit with the tailgate closed if you don't have mufflers that stick out too far. Depending on how the upper bed rail is configured you may have to put a piece of wood between the tire and vertical bed surface so the fender doesn't touch it.
I wouldn't suggest using a 6.5' bed, the rear tire might be on the tailgate and I wouldn't risk it. Could potentially damage/dent the tailgate.
My friend is putting his 2011 Ultra Limited in a Ford Ranger (yes, Ranger) and then towing the Ranger filled with motorcyle behind his motorhome. He will travel from Tucson, AZ to Victor, Colorado. Of course his tail gate will be down, and he'll have it lashed down good. The guy is an excavator who knows how to carry things and haul things. Would I do that? Probably not.
I have hauled with the taillgate down by distributing the rear tire load with a strip of thick plywood or a length of 2x8 under the rear wheel, just remove a screw or two that holds in the panel to get to the tailgate mechanicals and drill a hole through the board in a couple locations and replace with a like, but longer screw with fender washers and you will be good to go. on the piece of wood to block the front tire back from the front of bed panel.
