If you planning on riding at least 10k avg a year for at least next four years, definitely it will pay you back and some if not it's just waste of money for peace of mind.
I am picking up my first 06 Ultra classic from the dealer on Tuesday. We are still trying to decide on buying the extended warranty. Our bike has 21,000 miles on it and the warranty is 1600.00 for 2 years, 2500.00 for five years. Does anyone have an opinion on the HD extended warranty and if its worth it? There are pushing gap insurance as well. Its 450.00.
It isn't an extension of the warranty, which is 24 months, unlimited mileage.
It is an extended service contract. Read it to see what it covers. Each covered occurrence incurs a $50 charge.
If you are really underwater on the paper GAP coverage may be a viable option. If the scoot gets damaged or stolen you could be on the hook for the difference.
Like all insurance, you are betting against yourself.
I just was at the dealer yesterday in Lakewood NJ and they gave me a fair price for an 07 Heritage extended warranty Apx $1200 for 3 yr. A little more w/tire/wheel. I usually do 50-60k in 3 yrs or so so I'm probibly spring for it w/tire/wheel.
They say I can finance it w/ "0" interest. I do notice you're on your own for all the plastic computer/electric chunks though, which are expensive.
Over my 2 03 ultras (one Stolen) and its replacement, Harley extended has bought me a cam chest rebuild, and top end rebuild due to tensioner failure,in tank fuel lines, and trap door bearings,on the stolen one, then after I bought the replacement ,it had a tensioner fail after only having it about a month, that cost them a new engine, starter, clutch basket ,fuel gauge, head pipe, stator, and a transmission case, money well spent IMO.
I would guess that the total cost that they put out was in the area of 11k, and I spent less than 4k in warranty , and deductible.

I'm one that says don't do it as do all the consumer agencies. I rode my '08 40,000 miles in three years and never had a problem, and that was with some modification, also. I'll bet statistically way more people don't collect than do, which makes perfect sense, because for everyone that does collect, probably five don't in order for the insurance company to stay in business. You really have to understand what an insurance policy is, it is not much different than a casino, you bet it will break, they bet it won't ....... a few win, a lot lose. I take my chances, my choice, you have to decide what you want to do with your money.
