I am picking up my first 06 Ultra classic from the dealer on Tuesday. We are still trying to decide on buying the extended warranty. Our bike has 21,000 miles on it and the warranty is 1600.00 for 2 years, 2500.00 for five years. Does anyone have an opinion on the HD extended warranty and if its worth it? There are pushing gap insurance as well. Its 450.00.
Generally, I think Gap is a ripoff, depends on your situation.
Extended Warranty is a gamble, you bet it breaks, they bet it don't.
No clear cut answers, lots of opinions. Pray over it, and good luck!
1.) the warranty is almost certainly not from H-D. The dealer is probably selling you a 3rd party policy.
so what happens if they close doors next week?- the dealer has their commission, they aren't going to care.
READ the contract- most often the exclusions are for the things we do most, like air cleaner and pipes, never mind performance work
extended warranties best suit the rider buying a new bike, with plans for high mileage and no performance mods.

I have a five (really only three) year warranty and GAP insurance. Both are only good if you need them. Nut there is something to be said for peace of mind.
if it is the ESP I think it is from HD just administered by anouther co , good at any HD dealership , have it on mine and it paid a $3500 motor job on mine this past summer , shop around the price is high , mine is running out this fall and I am shopping around and prices running from $1900 to $1700 for 5 yrs , I have a 07 Ultra and 04 Heritage , same price on both and that is without tire coverage , have that on my ins , do a search here on ESP you will get a lot

Some HD dealers offer discounts on the HD Extended Service Plan; e.g. Tri-county HD, Lake Shore HD, and others.
The '06 is the last year of the spring tension cam chain tensioners, so if you're going to ride a lot over the next couple of years, it's likely the ESP will pay for their replacement and other consequential damage when they fail.
Likewise, the Harman Kardon radio has gone through several modifications to make it more reliable since its introduction in MY '06; many have failed. So radio replacement is another known weak link in the otherwise durable Ultra.
The dealer is selling a Harley Davidson ESP, and HD pays CNA to lay off the liability just like we all do when we buy insurance. So yes, you are correct, technically your contract is with CNA. Given the fact that its Harley's partner and their name and logo is also all over the contract, I think if CNA went under they would find a way to have them honored otherwise no one will ever buy an esp from HD again.
Bottom line is you will get 100 different opinions here about whether its a good deal or not. If you have breakdowns it ends up being a good deal. If you don't it wont be. I didn't buy if for my first bike but I bought it for this one. We'll see how I do. Its just like any other insurance policy...do you think insurance is a good deal if you never use it? It depends on what you feel comfortable with.
I am going to add 5 years to mine when my original is close to ending. Shop around there are cheaper rates. Call Kutter HD they are one of the cheapest I have found.

Do a search on this; 100's of pages and opinions on this. It being a 2006 TC 96, I would put on the 5 yr. Unused portion is refundable.
