I agree and that is why if push comes to shove I will pay the 170.00. I was just trying to get in front of it a bit if I could. I honestly thought with the cranking amps being under 10 that it would qualify as bad - but assumptions, you know what they say.

Some good info on AGM batteries. I keep a copy with my battery testing cht.

You keep saying $170.00. Be sure to look at the other posts here on the ETX30L. It is the same battery made by the same company as the HD battery for less than $100.00 shipped. 3 bolts and it is in. This makes it real easy to get out and in for < $6.00. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...mString=search

Big Crank batteries can be found at just under $100 delivered.
If not stranded, I would not fork over $170, IMHO.
Search the forum, discussed before.

All 12 volt batteries should read 12.9 volts fully charged at rest. A reading of 12.7 volts is a 75% charged battery.

Under a load (such as starting) the volts will fall off. Anything lower than 12.2 to12.3 volts, during the crank, indicates a week battery.

Once running the volts should measure about 14.2 volts. This would be an acceptable charging rate.

I just received my Big Crank battery mentioned earlier. My stock battery was getting weak and wouldn't hold a charge for very long. The Big Crank battery is the same as the stocker. I paid $92 shipped.

Are the dimensions of the ETX30L the same as the stock HD battery or do you end up having to shim it up inside the battery box to keep it from rattling around?

The ETX30L battery is the same one/same dimensions that is what the HD stocker is.
It is made by the same company in PA, just w/different labels for who-ever wants it, Deka, HD, Big Crank, whoever.

I thnk that if you would have to shim it up, you'd be referring to an 07 perhaps?

Not really referring to any particular model. In the past when I bought other batteries they were slightly different from OEM. If this is exact same, then you have given me a good option to try if I don't get this warranted prior to going on a trip away from my normal riding area.
