Stopped out by the shop today to check up on some of the mods I'm having done. It was after service dept hours so no one was there for me to ask any questions. Im having the 660 GPS installed and I noticed a plug inserted into my aux input. What is the purpose for this? I was expecting the GPS to interact with the radio, cutting music when the GPS needs to talk. I hope this isn't how the GPS "talks" meaning I will need to have my radio on AUX and can not listen to the radio when I want to hear verbal GPS commands.

Oh yeah! You'll get a short cord from that plug to the AUX so you can get your turn by turn piped through the speakers. I don't think you can use it and the music at the same time. Not sure. I use my GPS occasionally, but couldn't care less about the turn by turn instructions......
If you want it integrated with the radio, then you will have to buy the NIM, and have it installed. Sorry, Don't shoot the messenger.
If it is the NIM being installed, then the wire is for the music or XM from the 660 to the radio, as it does not carry over the same line as the spoken commands.

When i had it installed the dealer left it out. Why.... i dont know. So i had to run the wire myself
The GPS will still do turn by turn directions without the wire in the AUX, but you wont be able to use the MP3 player or XM
Did your get the NIM as well? If not that's how you will get your GPS instructions, if you did get the NIM then I think it's for your MP3s off of the GPS.
I did tell him I wanted the NIM, but, like I said, no one was there tonight to ask if it was installed. I was just a little thrown off when I saw the wire as I haven't seen it on other people's installations.
If you have the NIM, the GPS directions will be heard through the radio after the music mutes, with or without the plug.
With a NIM and the plug, you can then listen to music stored on the 660, and/or if you add the HD BOMM, the plug will allow for bluetooth phone calls from your 660 through an HD headset in the AUX mode.....

they plug is barely noticed and comes out just under the aux input. Its for your mp3 player. Your speaker switch needs to be down for gps directions to be heard. In the middle position, just the mp3 can be heard.
