I have discussed making a windshield cover with the Ole Lady. I gave my motorcycle cover away. That thing was a PITA.
Was afraid to put a warm cloth that it might crack the shield. Was about 18 degrees.
Just a wet towel will take it off in a few seconds, wet like room temp tap water. It would have to be an extremely cold windshield and an extremely hot towel to crack it. So cold you wouldn't be riding and so hot you wouldn't be handling the towel. Just wet a towel and wipe a bit.

On a recent trip, I went out and both sides of my UC windshield were covered with thick frost. Had to reschedule a meeting until later in the day once the frost had melted. However, I will not always have the option to reschedule and adjust my plans.
I though it was clear, this is only a problem when I'm traveling. When at home, my bikes are in the garage. But, I travel a lot, 12 months of the year.

Plastic bag draped over the windshield the night before,
or a warm towel the morning of sounds like the best advice.
Frost on the windshield means the possibility of frost on the roads,
I wouldn't be digging that !!!!
