the 98 has the 80" evo motor.

the twin cam ( current motor platform) started in 1999.

touring series bikes of the same year will have same drivetrain, brakes, frame, suspension, geometry etc. ( the difference between models is the fiberglass hanging on them, really)

evo cop bikes ( 84.5~98) may have special version motor with higher OR lower compression ( pursuit vs parade) may have special cam, will have more complex electrical system ( and ex-cop bikes may have all the cop stuff just "cut off"- so expect some mysteries)
pogo style seat, maybe run-flat tires, red switches, different saddlebag lids, changes in trim and badges, they may have no evap canister or other emissions controls

Cop bikes can be a nightmare OR a bargain, depending on their history.

got any detailed questions?

Mike
