I'm thinking about getting a Long Ride Windshields Ultra windshield since they have a 25% sale going on this weekend. I've been using a Clark's half moon wide (seen in my sig pic below), which I really like, but the wife bought me a Drift 170HD camera for Xmas, and I'd like to do some video of rides off of the handlebar mount...and the half moon gets in the way, so need to go back to a narrower shield.
Two questions:
1. What's the glare/distortion like with the LRS Ultra shield? Is there going to be problems with seeing what's immediately in front of the bike with the molded curve at the top?
2. I'm 5'10", on a stock 2008 Ultra seat (I'm one of the few that finds the stock seat more comfortable than the aftermarkets). The stock 12" that came with the bike hits at the eye level. I've been reading some other threads on here and it seems like the 8" or 9" would be the way to go with the LRS shield. However, when measuring from the center screw location as it says on their website, the 9" seems like it would be as high as the 12" stock. So, curious as to what size others my height ended up going with.
9" classic shield(has a slight flip at the top) from them.
Same heighth as you. Sundowner seat.
Shiled hits between lips and nose which for me is about right, as my head is still over but I can duck in under the shield if need be.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the feedback, lionsm13. How does the Sundowner compare to the stock seat? Higher/lower? Never used one...
I have the Ultra Flip-up but I dont remember the length! All I know is it needs to be an inch shorter. Its ok if I dont slouch!
Quality is outstanding. No glare or distortion and I have Medium tint. Great product and great company to work with....25% off sale right now so I may buy a shorter one if I could only remember which one I bought last year!
Its very clear. Wouldn't imagine it being a problem. I am also 5 10" and I went with a 8inch on my ultra stock seat. It comes to about my chin. It works perfect but could easily go with the 9" I think it would be the perfect height for you. You won't be disappointed in LRS. They are great. And the real nice thing is with the LRS I could still use my 3 pouch windshield bag.
Mine is the 9.0 inch in medium tint. There is a bit of distortion at the flip, but otherwise the shield has good clarity. I am also 5'10" on a 2011 Ultra Classic stock seat. The stock windshield hit me right where I wanted to look, so it was too tall. This LRS is just about the perfect height - I look over it naturally, and it gives good protection.
I think the medium tint is a bit too dark for what I want, but it really improves the looks of the bike.
I just got mine yesterday only went for a short ride. I chose the dark tint 9 inch. Really seems to do as advertised. True test will be when the wife is on.
Have a 12" ultra and just installed the 12" flattop. The 12" is the same size as stock, I look over it. Medium tint on both. Better than stock due to the flip and tint. Only 200 miles with the flat top, but those miles were in Jan/feb this year in Calgary i.e. not warm! Flat top seems to offer more protection as advertised.
I have a Road King, so little bit different comparison, I guess, as compared to the fairing models. I look over mine, got the same height as stock (I'm also 5'-10" or so). I bought one of the "blems" and can't find the blem on it anywhere (it says specifically where it is, but I still can't find it). Add a few bugs and who can tell the difference between a "blem" and a bug anyhow? This is an excellent quality w/s. It's thicker than stock (not much, but noticable), far more stable than stock (perhaps because it's thicker, and perhaps becuase the "flip" gives it more stiffness or maybe both) and while there is a little bit of distortion at the flip it has zero effect on visibility when riding. Most importantly, this thing absolutely deflects the wind up and over my head. In the winter I wear a 3/4 helmet with a flip up face shield and with the stocker the buffeting was so bad it would eventually give me a headache. The buffeting is almost gone with LRS w/s. I no longer have any issue riding with the 3/4 helmet and face shield. I've also used the w/s on a road trip and found that it is far more comfortable with just helmet and goggles or shades also; goggles or shades don't bounce around from the buffeting.
